Brandon Crawford Home Run

The Chicago Cubs extend the longest winning streak from the top of the major league, the San Francisco Giants open a lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers again, while the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners help out the Toronto Blue Jays by beating the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles.

San Francisco Giants 1  Miami Marlins 0: The Giants are struggling, but they have Brandon Crawford, hitting a 4th inning home run to open a one game lead over the Dodgers again, while Jeff Samardzija and the bullpen hold the Marlins to just 5 hits.

Philadelphia Phillies 6  Los Angeles Dodgers 2: The Phillies help out the Giants with efficient offense, scoring on just two specific hits: A three-run homer by Freddy Galvis, and Ryan Howard hitting a three-run double in the 9th inning, while Jeremy Hellickson struck out 7 in 5 innings.

Cleveland Indians 4  Washington Nationals 7: The Indians don’t get to widen their lead over the Tigers, giving up a three-run homer to Jayson Werth and two RBIs to Anthony Rendon, with help from Daniel Murphy in a 3-run 5th inning that lost them the game.

New York Yankees 9  Boston Red Sox 4: Alex Rodriguez got one meaningless at-bat, while the Yankees dropped the Red Sox even further in the AL East race. Boston led 4-1 heading into the 7th, but gave up five runs including a two-RBI double by Starlin Castro, and three more runs in the 8th, with the first home run of the season for Gary Sanchez.

Los Angeles Angels 1  Chicago Cubs 3: The Cubbies win their 9th in a row, enjoying a dominant Jason Hammel performance (7 innings, 4 hits, 6 k’s), a home run from Addison Russell and another RBI for Anthony Rizzo.

San Diego Padres 4  Pittsburgh Pirates 0: Edwin Jackson had a nice day with only two hits allowed while striking out 7 in 7 innings. Travis Jankowski stood out by stealing home plate in the 8th inning to cap off the win.

Tampa Bay Rays 0  Toronto Blue Jays 7: The Blue Jays take the lead in the AL East as J.A. Happ improved to 16-3, striking out 7 in 6 innings. Troy Tulowitzki hit his 19th home run of the season with a three-run homer, Justin Smoak got in on the long ball action as well.

Arizona Diamondbacks 3  New York Mets 2: More playoff problems for the Mets, with Jerry Blevins giving up a home run in the 12th inning to Oscar Hernandez, the first of his major league career.

Cincinnati Reds 2  St. Louis Cardinals 3: Home runs by Matt Carpenter and Jhonny Peralta carried the Cardinals, while Jaime Garcia held on for 8 innings, giving up two runs, before Seung Hwan-oh closed the deal in the 9th.

Colorado Rockies 4  Texas Rangers 5: Another late come from behind win for the Rangers against the Rockies, this time with Adrian Beltre hitting a two-RBI single in the 8th inning, while Johnathan Lucroy hits his fourth home run with the Rangers.

Atlanta Braves 3  Milwaukee Brewers 4: A Ryan Braun single and Chris Carter hitting a three run homer in the third inning do all of the offensive work for the Brewers.

Chicago White Sox 2  Kansas City Royals 3: Jose Quintana’s start goes to waste as the White Sox blow a lead twice, with Salvador Perez saving the Royals in the 11th inning to keep the game going, and Lorenzo Cain hitting a walk off single in the 14th.

Baltimore Orioles 0  Oakland Athletics 1: The A’s were held to only 4 hits, but a Yonder ALonso single in the third inning was enough to knock the Orioles off the top spot in the AL East. Ross Detwiler pitched 8 innings, helping the A’s get the shutout.

Detroit Tigers 1  Seattle Mariners 3: Nothing can slow down the surging Mariners (6 consecutive wins). A good start by Justin Verlander went to waste, with Nelson Cruz hitting a home run to regain the lead just after Verlander came off. Felix Hernandez didn’t get the win, but he allowed just 3 hits and struck out 8 in 7 innings.
