The Chicago Cubs actually lose for once, but they remain well ahead of the rest, while the New York Yankees get a pair of debutants to hit their first home runs, the Toronto Blue Jays regain the lead in the AL East, and the San Francisco Giants look impressive for once, holding on to their division lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

St. Louis Cardinals 8  Chicago Cubs 4: The Cardinals couldn’t go down without taking at least one game from the Cubs, ending their 11-game win streak. Kyle Hendricks struck out 12 in 7 innings, but things fell apart when Carl Edwards took the mound, giving up 5 runs, beginning with Jedd Gyorko hitting a solo home run to make it 2-2, and a Grand Slam home run by Randal Grichuk opened a six run lead, ending the game.

Tampa Bay Rays 4  New York Yankees 8: A day of home runs (all 12 runs were homers), as both Tyler Austin and Aaron Judge made their debuts for the Yankees with home runs, back to back at the plate. Masahiro Tanaka struck out 8 in 7 innings.

Houston Astros 2  Toronto Blue Jays 4: The Blue Jays trailed the Astros for 6 innings, until a three-run shot by Russell Martin put them in the lead, holding a 0.5 game lead in the AL East.

Pittsburgh Pirates 4  Los Angeles Dodgers 8: The Dodgers get 17 hits, which means they were quite wasteful, but still had enough for the win, as Joc Pederson stood out with a two-run homer, his 17th of the season.

Atlanta Braves 6  Washington Nationals 7: Daniel Murphy finished with 4 RBIs, including a two-run homer in the 1st, as the Nationals moved on from releasing Jonathan Papelbon, getting Mark Melancon to shine in the closing role again.

Colorado Rockies 3  Philadelphia Phillies 6: The benches cleared following a three-run homer by Maikel Franco, his 21st of the season, as Tyler Anderson of the Rockies pitched a ball to Franco’s knee. Both Anderson and Rockies manager Walt Weiss were ejected.

Arizona Diamondbacks 3  Boston Red Sox 6: The Red Sox remain two games behind the lead in the AL East, leaning on home runs from Sandy Leon and Brock Holt, coming back from falling 1-3 behind thanks to a strong bullpen performance.

Cincinnati Reds 11  Milwaukee Brewers 5: Eugenio Suarez hit his 19th home run of the season, a three-run homer this time, as the Reds led 9-0 before the Brewers got anything going their way.

Kansas City Royals 3  Minnesota Twins 5: A good performance by Tyler Duffey, giving up two runs while striking out 6, was enough for the Twins, getting three home runs from their offense, including a two-run shot by Eddie Rosario.

San Diego Padres 2  New York Mets 3: The Mets stop the losing, but did with a blown save from Jeurys Familia. Wilmer Flores grounding out in the 11th to help score a run saved them from falling even further behind in the wild card race.

Chicago White Sox 8  Miami Marlins 7: More good news for the Mets was a Marlins loss, as Melky Cabrera striking out but the wild pitch allowed Dioner Navarro to score and win the game, with David Robertson picking up the save.

Detroit Tigers 2  Texas Rangers 0: Cole Hamels gave up 14 hits and 17 base runners, but only two of those slipped by to help the Tigers win, while Matt Body (7 innings pitched) was in charge of the shutout over the AL West leaders.

Seattle Mariners 4  Oakland Athletics 3: Home runs from Nelson Cruz and Robinson Cano, an RBI single by Seth Smith, and a less than impressive win for Hisashi Iwakuma, put the Mariners back on track of making the postseason.

Baltimore Orioles 2  San Francisco Giants 6: The Giants maintain their one game lead over the Dodgers, as Madison Bumgarner allowed 3 hits, 0 runs and struck out 8 in 7 innings of work, with a Brandon Belt two-run homer putting the six runs up in the 7th innings, too much to worry about in the final two.

Los Angeles Angels 1  Cleveland Indians 5: Mike Clevinger took a no hitter into the sixth, eventually holding the Angels to just that one hit. Lonnie Chisenhall had two RBIs, the Indians hold on to a five-game lead in the AL Central.
