Chad Green

Things are heating up, as the Baltimore Orioles take the AL East lead back again without even playing, thanks to the New York Yankees beating the Toronto Blue Jays. The Kansas City Royals did the Cleveland Indians, who lost to the Boston Red Sox, a similar favor by beating the Detroit Tigers, while the Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins improved their positioning as they hunt for a wild card spot.

Boston Red Sox 3  Cleveland Indians 2: The Red Sox win their fourth in a row, but they’re still trailing both the Blue Jays and the Orioles in the AL East. David Ortiz hitting a two-run homer gave them the lead after an opening Indians homer, which they held on to.

Kansas City Royals 3  Detroit Tigers 1: The Royals denied the Tigers a chance to get closer to the Indians, as Ian Kennedy allowed only five hits and one run in 6.2 innings, striking out 5. Lorenzo Cain hit a 9th inning RBI single to solidify the win in a close game.

Toronto Blue Jays 0  New York Yankees 1: The Blue Jays lose to top spot in the division, managing only 3 hits against the Yankees, enjoying Chad Green tossing 11 strikeouts in six innings, while Aaron Judge hit the RBI double that decided the game.

Miami Marlins 6  Cincinnati Reds 3: The Marlins are now tied with the St. Louis Cardinals for the 2nd wild card spot, enjoying a strong day from Chris Johnson, hitting a solo homer and an RBI double, while Marcell Ozuna hit his 20th homer of the season.

San Diego Padres 2  Tampa Bay Rays 8: Drew Smyly had a good day of 7 innings and only 1 hit allowed (the Padres had 3 overall). Offense came from Logan Forsythe and Kevin Kiermaier, both with home runs and 3 RBIs.

Oakland Athletics 2  Texas Rangers 5: The Rangers stay ahead of the Seattle Mariners, winning in the 5th inning despite trailing thanks to Adrian Beltre hitting a grand slam home run, and the work of Matt Bush and Sam Dyson helped them keep the lead.

Washington Nationals 5  Colorado Rockies 4: With the game tied at 4-4 in the 7th, Bryce Harper hit the go-ahead double that drove Trea Turner home, and helped the Nats to a third consecutive win.

New York Mets 6  Arizona Diamondbacks 10: A loss that puts the Mets 3 games behind the wild card ticket, and Bartolo Colon drawing his first career walk at bat didn’t help, as his day on the mound wasn’t any good. Welington Castillo had four hits and was one of four Arizona players with two RBIs, including Yasmany Tomas with his 22nd home run of the season, a two-run homer.

Seattle Mariners 3  Los Angeles Angels 2: Win number 3 in a row and 9 out of the last 10 for Seattle, only two games behind in the wild card race. Felix Hernandez struck out 8 in 6.2 innings while Nelson Cruz hit his 30th home run of the season, helping the Angles to loss number 11 in a row.

Pittsburgh Pirates 8  San Francisco Giants 5: The Giants now have only 0.5 lead over the Dodgers in the NL West, while the Pirates are just one game out of the wild card ticket. Ryan Vogelsong wasn’t great but did enough to earn a win in his return to San Francisco, while Gregory Polanco stood out with a home run and four RBIs, singlehandedly taking the Pirates from behind to the lead and holding on to it.
