The Chicago Cubs keep on winning with Kris Bryant hitting two home runs. The Baltimore Orioles stop the losing with a six-home run performance against the Houston Astros, including two for both Chris Davis and J.J. Hardy. Reynaldo Lopez stood out with 11 strikeouts as the Washington Nationals dominated the Atlanta Braves, and Madison Bumgarner showed again who is the best hitting pitcher in the majors with a home run for the San Francisco Giants in a win over the New York Mets.

Boston Red Sox 3  Detroit Tigers 4: The Red Sox fall back to third in the division, while the Tigers move closer to the Wild Card spot, winning on a wild 8th inning, with four runs for both teams. A wild pitch allowed Mookie Betts to put the Red Sox up by two runs, but the Tigers responded with a Miguel Cabrera single, a Victor Martinez single and when loading the bases, a Andrew Romine walk that won the game.

Milwaukee Brewers 6  Chicago Cubs 9: The Cubs win their fourth in a row against the Brewers, getting going early with a 5-0 start. Kris Bryant hit a couple of home runs (making it to 30 this season), while Jake Arrieta didn’t do very well in his start (7 walks, 5 runs), yet still picked up the win.

Houston Astros 5  Baltimore Orioles 13: The Orioles move back to 2nd place in the division (1.5 games behind the Blue Jays) with six home runs against the slipping Astros (6.5 games behind in the wild card). Both Chris Davis and J.J. Hardy hit a couple of home runs, Manny Machado and Mark Trumbo (35 this season) hit one each.

Los Angeles Dodgers 4  Philadelphia Phillies 5: The Dodgers lose a bit of their lead in the NL West, dropping a 4-1 lead as Ryan Howard hit a solo home run in the 4th to put the Phillies closer, and Maikel Franco delivered the final blow in the 7th with a two-run homer to win the game.

Chicago White Sox 4  Cleveland Indians 5: Danny Salazar returned from the DL but was pulled after one inning. The pitching turmoil didn’t make things easy on the Indians, but with the game tied at 4-4, Tyler Naquin hit a sacrifice fly for the walk off win, capping a nice late comeback by the Indians, down two runs when heading into the 7th.

Washington Nationals 8  Atlanta Braves 2: Reynaldo Lopez struck out 11 batters in his start, while Jayson Werth stood out with two hits, one run and an RBI, as the Nats extend their division lead to 9.5 games.

Miami Marlins 4  Cincinnati Reds 5: Third straight loss for the Marlins, falling behind early due to a three-run homer by Ramon Cabrera, , only the second home run of his career.

Minnesota Twins 1  Kansas City Royals 8: Get this – the Royals are now only 6.5 games behind the wild card spot, winning 5 in a row and 8 out of their last 10. Alex Gordon hit a grand slam home run and Dillon Gee got the win with 7 k’s in 7 innings.Cheslor Cuthbert had 3 hits and 2 runs.

Seattle Mariners 4  Los Angeles Angels 6: The Mariners run towards the playoffs was halted by the Angels, as Albert Pujols hit a key two-run double to open a 3-run lead, and Matt Shoemaker put in one of his better performances in an overall disappointing season.

Arizona Diamondbacks 8  San Diego Padres 9: In the battle of bottom dwellers in the NL West, the Padres win thanks to some bad fielding, and mostly a three-RBI double by Alex Dickerson in the 8th, part of a four-RBI day for the left fielder. The Diamondbacks once again presented their incredible ability to lose early and even late leads, something they do better than anyone else.

New York Mets 7  San Francisco Giants 10: While the Mets keep falling away out of contention for a playoff spot, the Giants get back on the horse and narrow the distance from the Dodgers. Madison Bumgarner beat Jacob deGrom in the pitchers duel, with deGrom giving up 13 hits and 8 runs. The Mets started with Justin Ruggiano hitting a grand slam home run, but the Giants replied with eight runs, including Bumgarner hitting a home run and Eduardo Nunez driving in runners with a triple and a single.
