While the Chicago Cubs are stunned by the Colorado Rockies due to an awful error by Javier Baez, the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees win their game with impressive home run hitting to advance in the AL East, the San Francisco Giants recapture the top spot in the division at the expense of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and in a day filled with clutch, extra inning hitting, the St. Louis Cardinals stand out with their 5th consecutive win.

Boston Red Sox 10  Detroit Tigers 2: Red Sox are back in 2nd in the division and first overall in the Wild Card standings, enjoying two-run homers from David Ortiz and Jackie Bradley Jr., while Rick Porcello struck out 8 in 7 innings, earning his 17th win of the season.

Houston Astros 15  Baltimore Orioles 8: The Orioles continue to struggle with their pitching. They actually started the game with 5 home runs in the 1st, but the Astros responded with five runs to take the lead in the 2nd. The Astros grabbed the lead again before the game became all Houston from the 5th inning onward, led by 5 RBIs from Jose Altuve, including his 20th home run of the season.

St. Louis Cardinals 4  Philadelphia Phillies 3: The Cardinals win their fifth in a row with some strong late hitting, tying the game and going into extra innings thanks to a 9th inning home run by Jedd Gyorko, and winning in the 11th off of a Randal Grichuk RBI double.

Miami Marlins 6  Pittsburgh Pirates 5: The Marlins curb the Pirates and get closer to them with a late 8th and 9th inning surge, beginning with a Miguel Rojas home run, and won on a RBI single by Robert Andino.

Toronto Blue Jays 2  Cleveland Indians 3: The Blue Jays held a lead thanks to a two-run homer by Russell Martin in the 1st until the 9th inning: Jose Ramirez tied the game on a solo home run, followed by Tyler Naquin hitting an inside-the-park homer for the walk off win.

Los Angeles Dodgers 2  Cincinnati Reds 9: The Dodgers lose again and drop out of the top spot in the NL West, giving up a three-run homer to Joey Votto early on, and even Reds reliever MIchael Lorenzen got in on the action with a 3-run homer in the 7th, putting the game well beyond reach.

Texas Rangers 6  Tampa Bay Rays 2: A big day for Cole Hamels with 10 strikeouts, only 3 allowed hits and two walks through 7.1 innings, and an even bigger day for Adrian Beltre, hitting two home runs out of his four hits in the game.

Washington Nationals 7  Atlanta Braves 6: The Nationals let a 5-0 lead slip away, but after the game was already tied, a 9th inning RBI single by Clint Robinson saved the win from evaporating.

Oakland Athletics 9  Chicago White Sox 0: Kendall Graveman allows only two hits in a nine-inning shutout, including striking out 5, allowing the offense of Khris Davis, Stephen Vogt and Yonder Alonso do what it’s supposed to.

Minnesota Twins 4  Kansas City Royals 5: The sixth straight win for the Royals, now 5.5 games behind the wild card ticket, also winning in the 11th inning thanks to Eric Hosmer hitting a walk off RBI single, as J.T. Chargois blew it on the mound for the Twins in the end.

New York Yankees 7  Los Angeles Angels 0: Masahiro Tanaka gets 9 batters to whiff and leave in a 7.2 inning start, while the Yankees support him with four home runs, including a career first for third baseman Ronald Torreyes.

Milwaukee Brewers 6  Seattle Mariners 7: The Mariners aren’t letting the playoffs get away from them, winning their 7th straight home game with home runs from Kyle Seager, Robinson Cano and Adam Lind.

New York Mets 1  San Francisco Giants 8: The Giants are back at 1st in the NL West, helping Johnny Cueto stop his rough skid (despite striking out just 2 in his win), with the offense of Denard Span and Conor Gillaspie doing the work.

Arizona Diamondbacks 4  San Diego Padres 7: The Diamondbacks drop another lead and lose in the 10th inning, with Ryan Schimpf playing the hero: Hitting the game-tying home run in the 8th inning, and the game-winning homer in the 10th.

Chicago Cubs 6  Colorado Rockies 7: A wild ending in extra innings gives the Rockies a surprising win, scoring two runs with their backs to the wall off of a weird error by Javier Baez. Baez’ made a wild throw that got past Wilson Contreras, allowing Ryan Raburn to run in for the score.
