Yoenis Cespedes home run

The four leading teams in the AL East teams lose, and so do the Chicago Cubs against the Colorado Rockies, while the New York Mets survive a pitchers duel against the San Francisco Giants thanks to a Yoenis Cespedes home run, which helps the Los Angeles Dodgers on top of the NL West, shutting out the Cincinnati Reds, while Chase Utley impressed with accuracy and power.

Boston Red Sox 5  Detroit Tigers 10: A big day for Justin Upton with two 3-run homers (15 overall this season), as the Tigers slow down the Red Sox and put themselves 2.5 games behind the wild card ticket, at least for now.

Toronto Blue Jays 2  Cleveland Indians 3: The Indians trailed after Melvin Upton hit a home run and Josh Donaldson added an RBI of his own, but one run behind in the 8th, a two-run homer by Jose Ramirez lifted them to victory.

Los Angeles Dodgers 4  Cincinnati Reds 0: Julio Urias has another strong day on the mound, with 6 k’s in 6 innings (4-2, 3.95 ERA), while Chase Utley hits his 11th home run of the season to kick off the game, following it up with an RBI single.

Texas Rangers 4  Tampa Bay Rays 8: The Rays were the only AL East team to win a game, not letting the early Delino DeShields two-run homer get to them. Home runs from Logan Forsythe and Steven Souza Jr. did most of the damage.

Washington Nationals 6  Atlanta Braves 7: The Braves rallied slowly from three runs down, taking the game into extra innings. In the 10th, Jace Peterson hit a solo home run to win the game.

St. Louis Cardinals 9  Philadelphia Phillies 0: Mike Leake did give up 7 hits, but also struck out 8 while walking just one in 7 shutout innings. The Cardinals enjoyed four home runs, including Jedd Gyorko and pinch hitting Jeremy Hazelbaker hitting two-run homers.

Miami Marlins 3  Pittsburgh Pirates 2: Their third straight win, putting the Marlins 1.5 games behind the Cards in the wild card race. Martin Prado grounded out in the 5th to tie the game at 2-2, and a wild pitch allowed Dee Gordon to score and win the game.

Oakland Athletics 2  Chicago White Sox 4: Jose Quintana looks good in 7 innings of work to earn win number 10 this season, while Todd Frazier stood out with a two-RBI single and Jose Abreu hit his 16th home run of the season.

Minnesota Twins 1  Kansas City Royals 2: The 8th win in a row for the Royals, now only 3.5 games behind the wild card spot. Danny Duffy won his 10th straight game, and a 6th inning doubler from Eric Hosmer broke the tie and won the game.

New York Yankees 0  Los Angeles Angels 2: The Yankees remain inconsistent, expected with all the young players involved. Two RBIs for Andrelton Simmons helped Albert Pujols, with 3 hits, score two runs.

Milwaukee Brewers 7  Seattle Mariners 6: The Mariners almost got their hands on a wild card spot, but the Brewers, thanks to home runs by Keon Broxton (two of ’em) and Chris Carter (29th this season) managed a huge comeback in the 9th to stun their hosts.

Chicago Cubs 4  Colorado Rockies 11: A rough day for the NL leaders, giving up two home runs to Nolan Arenado, while Jason Hammel allowed 10 runs in 3.1 innings of work.

Arizona Diamondbacks 1  San Diego Padres 9: Luis Perdomo has a strong day, giving up only 5 hits in 7 innings, while the bats of Travis Jankowski (two-run homer) and Alexei Ramirez (2 RBIs) do most of the offensive damage.

Houston Astros 5  Baltimore Orioles 3: The Astros hand the O’s their 3rd consecutive loss, this time without a barrage of runs. Dallas Keuchel looked solid in 8 innings with 7 k’s, while Carlos Correa stood out with two RBIs off of a 5th inning double.

New York Mets 2  San Francisco Giants 0: Noah Syndergaard and Jeff Samardzija have themselves a duel won by the Mets’ ace (8 innings, 2 hits, 6 k’s). Yoenis Cespedes hit a two-run homer in the 7th to lift the Mets to victory.
