  • The Fall of Arsene Wenger (Manchester United vs Arsenal)

Image: Source Wayne Rooney scored a hat trick, but the most inruiging figure on the pitch this afternoon at Old Trafford was Arsene Wenger. The fading away confidence, the body language, accepting the loss, than the collapse, than the utter and complete humiliation. The signs were all there, but Arsenal’s 8-2 drubbing by the hands of […]

  • Luis Suarez Did Everything But Score (Liverpool vs Bolton)

Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish are getting there. Luis Suarez was brilliant, unstoppable. Everything Liverpool eventually managed to do, which was three goals and a very impressive display this evening at Anfield, happened through all of the mayhem Suarez created in that Bolton back four. A comfortable 3-1 win, which could have been much more resounding.

  • Squeezing Out Another Win (Chelsea vs Norwich)

Juan Manuel Mata scored on his Chelsea debut to make the long added time worthwhile, but Chelsea produces another disappointing match and display, getting the win mostly thanks to a penalty given to them in the 82nd minute, which Frank Lampard, as usual, struck with the usual success. Bottom line – 3-1 over a very weak Norwich side, but Chelsea look nothing like a title bound team.

  • More Lionel Messi and a Touch of Fabregas (Barcelona vs FC Porto)

The unofficial opener to the season, the European Super Cup, was dominated, and won by – Barcelona (2-0). Who else? The Midas touch continued for Barcelona and Guardiola, mostly thanks to Lionel Messi, who scored the opener (with a lot of luck) and brilliantly set up the second goal, Cesc Fabregas debut goal for the club. Porto weren’t much of an opposition.

  • 2011-2012 Champions League Group Stage Draw

The biggest and most popular club tournament in the world is all set. After the qualifying rounds are over, we got the real deal, or the closest thing to it. The 2011-2012 UEFA Champions League group stage begins on September 13, with Barcelona defending their title and hoping to be the first team since Milan in 1990 to repeat the title. The two are in the same group by the way.

  • Title Holders and Bad Pretenders (Manchester United vs Tottenham)

During the first half I was thinking – Manchester United’s midfield is too weak. They can’t even dominate a Tottenham side that had no aspirations of any possession. Danny Welbeck looked like a striker from a mid-table club, borderline starter. After Anderson’s 76th minute goal, after a cheeky heel from Welbeck, my mind was singing a different tune about Manchester United, the champions and the best team in England right now.

  • Roberto Mancini Gets to Choose Whether Nasri Plays or Not?

It’s all Arsene Wenger’s fault. What a mess. Waiting all summer long to somehow convince Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri to stay while not showing any sign of really making a push in the transfer market for some well known and proven name. Roberto Mancini does have more resources to make such moves, and the Nasri deal, on the verge of being signed, has him in a position to suggest Wenger with who to play against Udinese.

  • A New Edin Dzeko (Bolton vs Manchester City)

It wasn’t Sergio Aguero who set the field alight this Sunday afternoon at the Reebok stadium, but Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko, continuing his impressive start to the 2011-2012 campaign. He scored his third goal (including the community shield) in so many matches, making his 27 million pound purchase last season look a bit better, being the best man on the pitch in City’s 3-2 win over Bolton.

  • Lionel Messi Above Everyone Else (Barcelona vs Real Madrid)

With so many stars, the little Argentinian was again the best man on the pitch. Cesc Fabregas might have finally gotten his debut for Barcelona, but it was, like so many nights tend to be at the Nou Camp, like so many Barcelona vs Real Madrid Clasicos, Lionel Messi’s show, his night.

  • Arsenal and Arsene Wenger Getting Used to Life Without Fabregas While Barcelona Can’t Wait for his Debut

The lost son has returned… Cesc Fabregas finally got his wish and got to wear a Barcelona uniform, this time not forced on him by Reina and Puyol. He even kissed the badge. Oh, that had to hurt for Arsenal fans I’m sure. Or maybe not? After two long years of this saga, knowing that the team is finally moving forward, or maybe backwards in terms of ability, from what I saw yesterday against Udinese.
