    Nearly the biggest upset anyone could think of happened at the Etihad stadium, but Samir Nasri on a fantastic day, one of his best since joining Manchester City, scored the winner 10 minutes from time after Southampton made life very difficult for a wasteful defending champions, giving them a 3-2 win.

    Were Chelsea impressive in their first match of the 2012-2013 season? Not really, but Eden Hazard set up the first goal for Branislav Ivanovic with a wonderful pass and drew the foul that got the penalty, converted by Frank Lampard, giving Chelsea a 2-0 away win at Wigna to open their league campaign.

    Brendan Rodgers couldn’t have asked for a worst Premier League debut with Liverpool – Losing 0-3 to West Brom at the Hawthorns while losing his most important defender, Daniel Agger, to a questionable red card and also watching Joe Cole leaving the match injured, which is pretty much a given every time he’s on the pitch.
