  • The Andrea Pirlo Effect (Juventus vs Parma)

Juventus opened the 2011-2012 Serie A with an impressive 4-1 win over Parma, with new arrival Andrea Pirlo making a succesful debut (2 assists) and Antonio Conte beginning his head coaching career with a bang.

  • Real Madrid vs Barcelona Title Race, Week 2

Took only two weeks for the first of the two Spanish giants to drop points – It was Barcelona, who managed to squander a comfortable 2-0 away lead against Real Sociedad to a 2-2 finish. Meanwhile, in Madrid, Getafe didn’t make it easy for Jose Mourinho’s side, but Real were too good, as expected, en route to a 4-2 victory.

  • Barcelona vs Real Madrid Title Race, Week 1

The Spanish La Liga opened, finally, this weekend. It’s going to be a two horse raise, as usual, between the champions for the last three seasons, Barcelona, and Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid. Both teams’ opening matches were a festival of goals and weak opposition, also foreshadowing the pichichi firing shot, with Both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo starting strong.

  • Luis Suarez Did Everything But Score (Liverpool vs Bolton)

Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish are getting there. Luis Suarez was brilliant, unstoppable. Everything Liverpool eventually managed to do, which was three goals and a very impressive display this evening at Anfield, happened through all of the mayhem Suarez created in that Bolton back four. A comfortable 3-1 win, which could have been much more resounding.

  • Squeezing Out Another Win (Chelsea vs Norwich)

Juan Manuel Mata scored on his Chelsea debut to make the long added time worthwhile, but Chelsea produces another disappointing match and display, getting the win mostly thanks to a penalty given to them in the 82nd minute, which Frank Lampard, as usual, struck with the usual success. Bottom line – 3-1 over a very weak Norwich side, but Chelsea look nothing like a title bound team.

  • More Lionel Messi and a Touch of Fabregas (Barcelona vs FC Porto)

The unofficial opener to the season, the European Super Cup, was dominated, and won by – Barcelona (2-0). Who else? The Midas touch continued for Barcelona and Guardiola, mostly thanks to Lionel Messi, who scored the opener (with a lot of luck) and brilliantly set up the second goal, Cesc Fabregas debut goal for the club. Porto weren’t much of an opposition.

  • Title Holders and Bad Pretenders (Manchester United vs Tottenham)

During the first half I was thinking – Manchester United’s midfield is too weak. They can’t even dominate a Tottenham side that had no aspirations of any possession. Danny Welbeck looked like a striker from a mid-table club, borderline starter. After Anderson’s 76th minute goal, after a cheeky heel from Welbeck, my mind was singing a different tune about Manchester United, the champions and the best team in England right now.

  • A New Edin Dzeko (Bolton vs Manchester City)

It wasn’t Sergio Aguero who set the field alight this Sunday afternoon at the Reebok stadium, but Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko, continuing his impressive start to the 2011-2012 campaign. He scored his third goal (including the community shield) in so many matches, making his 27 million pound purchase last season look a bit better, being the best man on the pitch in City’s 3-2 win over Bolton.

  • Sergio Aguero and Maybe a New Sensation

Is Sergio Aguero the man to make Manchester City an exciting team? At 38 million pounds, he better be. Leaving jokes aside, Aguero’s fantastic 30 minutes yesterday – two goals and one creative assist to David Villa, capping off a whopping 4-0 thrashing of Swansea leaves the taste buds in mouths of City fans hungry for more.

  • A Huge Match Before the Real Season Begins (Real Madrid vs Barcelona)

If a demonstration to the importance of Xavi was ever needed, yesterday was the perfect example. David Villa scored a wonderful goal, Lionel Messi did his thing with a little bit of help from lady luck. Still, Real Madrid dominated the First leg of the Super Cup, which is something between a friendly and a league match. After a slightly dull start to the season in England, this was the bang we needed to tell us football is back.
