  • Barcelona and Real Madrid Make Bad Signings Too

Barcelona and Real Madrid Make Bad Signings Too

I don’t think too many people expected Alex Song to be a big part of the Barcelona plan for success this season, unless injuries took their toll on the first team. I’m not sure a lot of fans thought Luka Modric is some substantial upgrade to Real Madrid, or better than one of their midfielders. It didn’t stop Marca voters to choose them as the worst signings of the season so far.

  • FC Barcelona – Lionel Messi Makes it Look So Easy

FC Barcelona – Lionel Messi Makes it Look So Easy

Just another day in the office, despite everything, for Barcelona and even more so, Lionel Messi. The 2012 calendar year will end for the best player in the world with 91 goals to his name, make of it what you will. The important thing for him and his team is that they’re practically untouchable at the top of the table as we reach the Christmas break.

  • FC Barcelona – The Victory of Lionel Messi, the Loss of Cesc Fabregas

FC Barcelona – The Victory of Lionel Messi, the Loss of Cesc Fabregas

The good: Barcelona came away from a very tough away match with a 2-1 win. Lionel Messi now owns yet another scoring record, most goals scored in a calendar year. The bad: Cesc Fabregas couldn’t last more than nine minutes, leaving with a thigh injury, and will be out for three to four weeks.

  • FC Barcelona – Jordi Alba Starts Proving his Worth

FC Barcelona – Jordi Alba Starts Proving his Worth

On a night in which the Celtic defense looked unbreakable at the back, Barcelona needed a little something special from someone unexpected, and Jordi Alba, who hasn’t the best of seasons up to this point, fell into that certain slot with a dramatic winning goal.

  • FC Barcelona – Lionel Messi the Only one who can Score

FC Barcelona – Lionel Messi the Only one who can Score

Only a draw at home against their biggest rivals, and still, Barcelona should be pleased. Still 8 points ahead of Real Madrid, and still one Lionel Messi, there whenever he’s most needed, scoring two goals in a match they probably didn’t deserve to win, a rarity in a Clasico from recent years.

  • Barcelona vs Real Madrid – El Clasico in Recent Seasons

Just one more match left (Real Madrid in the Champions League) and both teams (Barcelona as well) will be fully immersed in the first La Liga Clasico this season, the last of 2012, another six-Clasico calendar year. It’s not about revenge, they say at the Camp Nou, it’s simply about winning.

  • FC Barcelona – The Cost of Building the Current Squad

FC Barcelona – The Cost of Building the Current Squad

While most people view Barcelona as a club that mostly uses home grown talent (which is true, to an extent), the current crop of purchased players, beginning with Eric Abidal in 2007, the only pre-Guardiola player outside player still with the squad, cost €211.5 million to assemble, including David Villa (the most expensive signing in the history of the club), Cesc Fabregas and Dani Alves.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo Shows Up For the Big Games (Barcelona vs Real Madrid)

Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t great, but scored the goal coming against the momentum, probably clinching the title for Real Madrid with an impressive 2-1 win at the Camp Nou. Lionel Messi? He’d like to forget this game. Jose Mourinho and his team were flawless tactically, while Pep Guardiola seemed to concede the match from the first moment with a weird lineup.

  • Alexis and Messi Too Much for Bayer (Leverkusen vs Barcelona)

Lionel Messi added a third and final dagger in the closing minutes to make sure Leverkusen had no chance of having any hope of coming out for the first leg with at least a draw, and no chance of making the Champions League quarter finals this season, joining Alexis’ double to give Barcelona a 3-1 win in the first leg.

  • No Goals Lionel Messi Masterclass (Real Madrid vs Barcelona)

Lionel Messi didn’t score, but provided an assist and another wonderful night of Clasico football as Barcelona came back from a stunningly early Real Madrid lead to beat their biggest rivals 3-1 at the Bernabeu, temporarily returning to the top of the league. Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t find the net as well in another nightmarish Clasico for him.
