2014 World Cup – Italy & Andrea Pirlo in a Passing Masterclass
There’s not too much creativity and flair to the current Italy team, but in their deserved 2-1 win over England, it was hard to ignore the herald of everything beautiful, elegant and clever in their play: Andrea Pirlo. He didn’t score or finish with an assist, but his passing and ability to dictate the pace and flow of the match was completely sublime.

2014 World Cup – A Tournament of Comebacks, Goals & No Draws
One of the more easily picked up trends in the 2014 World Cup so far has been the one in which teams don’t really mind conceding first. Of the eight matches we’ve had, there still hasn’t been a single draw, while Brazil, the Netherlands, the Ivory Coast and Costa Rica have all come back from being the first to give up a goal. And there have been plenty of goals.

2014 World Cup – Day 4 Predictions (Argentina vs Bosnia, France vs Honduras, Switzerland vs Ecuador)
In day 4 of the 2014 World Cup, we will get to see two matches from Group E as France take on Honduras and Switzerland plays Ecuador, although the main course will be the one that comes last, as Argentina play their main rivals for supremacy in Group F, facing Bosnia in Rio de Janeiro.

Day 3 was another fantastic one, although a long affair, with a total of 13 goals in four matches, as Colombia and the Ivory Coast took the early lead in Group C with convincing wins over Greece and Japan, while in Group D, the supposed Group of Death, Costa Rica stunned Uruguay and later were joined by Italy who came out as the winners from the battle of giants against England.

2014 World Cup – Iker Casillas & Spain Aren’t Washed Up
Big results are usually misleading. Spain aren’t four goals worse than the Netherlands, and Iker Casillas, along with Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique, isn’t as bad as their 90 minute fiasco. However, for Spain to somehow get over this extreme setback and still have something to play for in the World Cup, some decisions, like stopping this hybrid style forced upon them by Diego Costa, need to be made by Vicente del Bosque.

On Referees Ruining Matches in the World Cup
There is nothing better than a month dedicated to football. The World Cup is one huge massive chunk of joy for fans, but despite the enjoyable matches so far in Brazil and the abundance of goals, referees like Yuichi Nishimura, Wilmar Roldan and his crew and Nicola Rizzoli have made it possible for many to feel like there’s something wrong with the tournament.

With Barcelona, Alexis Sanchez has a defines, limited role. Playing for Chile, it’s a very different story, as the talented forward has pretty much a free role to go wherever he wants on the pitch, resulting in some brilliant football from his team in their win over Australia, and a fantastic assist from Sanchez in the second goal.

2014 World Cup – Day 3 Predictions (England vs Italy, Uruguay vs Costa Rica, Colombia vs Greece)
Day 3 of the 2014 World Cup will also be the longest one with four matches taking place. The biggest of course will be in Group D as England and Italy face each other, and Uruguay playing Costa Rica is also in that group. Group D opens and closes the day, first with Colombia playing against Greece and then the Ivory Coast against Japan.

2014 World Cup – Day 2 Results & Table
Day 2 of the 2014 World Cup brought us the sensational result from group B as the Netherlands crushed Spain 5-1 with braces from Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben. Chile also won in that group, beating Australia 3-1, while Mexico capped things off in Group A with an impressive 1-0 win over Cameroon which wasn’t as close as the scoreline might suggest.
