    Some said that Alabama missing out on the national championship game might be the end of an era. Oklahoma coming in as underdogs to the Sugar Bowl and stunning the Crimson Tide with a huge night from freshman quarterback Trevor Knight probably helped cement that sentiment.

    It has taken five years for a Big Ten team to reclaim the Rose Bowl, as Michigan State came to Pasadena and simply outplayed Stanford with a slight twist in the story: Instead of a dominant running game, they won thanks to Connor Cook putting on a passing clinic.

    Unlike some predictions, Iowa were able to hang in there with LSU for most of the Outback Bowl. However, their defense couldn’t grab a hold of Jeremy Hill, running for two touchdowns and 216 yards, leading the Tigers to the 21-14 win.

    The Nebraska defense didn’t do anything special this season, but their performance against Georgia inside the red zone during the Gator Bowl is what gave them the 24-19 victory and a perception of some success to a mostly disappointing season.
