The College Football Playoff Committee will soon release their first rankings for the 2016 season. Unless they’ve been watching a completely different season, it’ll be Alabama, Michigan, Clemson and Washington, probably in that order as well, that are in the playoff spots.

Most BCS/New Year’s Six Bowl Game Appearances 2008-2015
In another attempt to determine the most dominant programs in College Football over the last 8 seasons, we took a look at the number of major bowl game appearances for schools since 2008, which means either a BCS Bowl or a New Year’s Six Bowl Game since the era of the College Football Playoff was ushered in. We narrowed the list down to six schools with at least 4 such appearances. The Pac-12 is the only conference with two on the list, which could suggest quality, or simply parity.

Teams With the Most College Football National Championships
In the poll-era which began in 1936 and includes teams finishing the college football season at #1 on the AP Poll or Coaches poll, later including the BCS championship and now the College Football Playoff, there are only seven programs with five national titles or more: Alabama, Miami, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ohio State and USC.

Playing for Something in Rivalry Week: Playoffs, Conference Championship or Team Chaos
Going into rivalry week, there are a number of categories to use in order to sort the teams going head to head in week 13: Those hoping to end up playing in the College Football playoffs (like Clemson, Alabama and Oklahoma), the ones trying to win a conference championship at best (USC, UCLA, Navy) or those agents of team chaos, hoping to mess it up for their rivals, aka Nebraska, Florida State, Penn State and a few others.

2015 College Football Season – Week 11 Playoff Rankings
Nothing changes in the high places of the College Football Playoff rankings following the events of week 11, with Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State and Notre Dame Occupying the top in that order, while Iowa complete the top 5. Oklahoma State and Oklahoma are just behind as the Big 12 representatives, waiting for a chance to get in after someone drops the ball.

The only rankings that really matter, those revealed by the College Football Playoff committee, have been posted for the first time this season, keeping Mississippi State and Florida State as the top two teams in the nations, followed by Auburn and Ole Miss to complete the picture of the Final Four.

College Football – Only Ten Undefeated Teams Left
The first weekend of College Football in October completely changed the outlook of the rankings and what the playoffs will be like according to the current situation, as only ten teams in the nation remain undefeated: Three in the SEC (Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State), two in the ACC (Florida State, Georgia Tech), two in the Big 12 (Baylor, TCU), one in the Pac-12 (Arizona), Notre Dame among the Independents and Marshall from Conference USA.
