Instead of making some impressive late push towards a top-six finish, Liverpool continue to find ways to stay behind and keep themselves from the necessary progress that was promised. Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho once again brought class and flair with most of their touches, but an overall sense of the lacking accuracy, combined with a weak display from Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard resulted in a score that kept them out of the European qualification zone.

If recent weeks haven’t proven it already, the 5-0 demolition of Swansea showed Brendan Rodgers what everybody knows – Liverpool have to play with two forwards, strikers more likely, in the lineup. Fabio Borini is once again injured, so as it should be, it’s pretty much up to Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

Still no win against a team in the top 10 of the Premier League, but another match to show that Liverpool are pretty much going in the right direction. The right kind of approach in a match against a stronger team, led by Steven Gerrard in the middle and Luis Suarez up front, while the defense, and especially Pepe Reina, couldn’t handle the opportunity given to them.

Not the busiest of transfer windows, but still with a few notable moves, as every January brings us – Liverpool purchasing Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea and Philippe Coutinho from Inter; Newcastle raiding the French league, Chelsea buying Demba Ba; Arsenal landing Nacho Montreal from Malaga and QPR, also very busy, signing Christopher Samba.

Robin van Persie Leads Manchester United to Another Win over Liverpool
For the fourth consecutive time, Old Trafford was too much for Liverpool, who came to play about 60 minutes too late. Manchester United were the better side for the first hour, including the entire first half, getting enough of an advantage through the goals of Robin van Persie and Nemanja Vidic, giving them enough of an advantage to come away with a 2-1 win.
