Not the busiest of transfer windows, but still with a few notable moves, as every January brings us – Liverpool purchasing Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea and Philippe Coutinho from Inter; Newcastle raiding the French league, Chelsea buying Demba Ba; Arsenal landing Nacho Montreal from Malaga and QPR, also very busy, signing Christopher Samba.
Arsenal – Nacho Monreal was signed from Malaga on the last day for around £10 million paid for the left back
Aston Villa – Yacouba Sylla was signed from Clermont for £2 million; Sylla is a 22 year old defensive midfielder.
Chelsea
Demba Ba left Newcastle for Chelsea, signed for £7.5 million ;Wallace, an 18 year old Brazilian, was signed from Fluminense, but will arrive only next summer.
Everton – John Stones, a 18 year old right back, arrived from Barnsley.
Liverpool
Daniel Sturrdige came over from Chelsea for £12 million; Philippe Coutinho, the 20 year old Brazilian attacking midfielder, was purchased from Inter for £8.5 million.
Newcastle
Signed Mathieu Debuchy, the 27 year old French right back from Lille for £5.5 million; Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, a 23 year old French defender; Yoan Gouffran arrived from Bordeaux for £1.2 million; 20 year old French left back Massadio Haïdara arrived from Nancy; 23 year old Moussa Sissoko arriving from Toulouse;.
Norwich – Signed 28 year old goalkeeper, Lee Camp, from Nottingham Forest; Luciano Becchio, the 29 year old Argentine striker, coming from Leeds.
Reading – Daniel Carriço, a 24 year old Portuguese centre back, signed for £609,000 from Sporting; Hope Akpan, a 21 year old midfielder who came from Crawley Town; 23 year old striker Nick Blackman was signed from Sheffield United for £1.2 million;
QPR
Loïc Remy, the 26 year old French striker was signed from Marseille for £8 million ;Signed veteran Israeli centre back Tal Ben Haim on a free transfer; 22 year old Yun Suk-Young was signed from Chunnam Dragons in Korea; Jermaine Jenas left Tottenham for another London team; Christopher Samba was signed for £12.5 million from Anzhi.
Southampton – Vegard Forren, a 24 year old Norwegian centre back arrived from Molde.
Stoke – Purchased Jack Butland from Birmingham City for £3.5 million, loaning him back to Birmingham for the time being; Brek Shea, the 22 year old American winger, was purchased for £2.5 million from FC Dallas.
Sunderland – Signed Alfred N’Diaye, a 22 year old French/Senegalese defender, arriving from Bursaspor for €4.7 million; Stephen Kelly, the 29 year old Irish international, arriving from Fulham; Danny Graham came over from Swansea for £5 million.
Tottenham
Lewis Holtby, the highly rated 22 year old German midfielder was signed from Schalke for €1.75 million ;Signed youngster Zeki Fryers, a 20 year old defender, from Standard Liege after previously failing to sign him from Manchester United.
West Ham – Sean Maguire, a small 18 year old striker, was signed from Waterford; Signed Joe Cole from Liverpool on a free transfer;
Wigan – Signed Roger Espinoza, a 26 year old Honduran player on a free transfer after leaving Kansas City;
