The preview to the NCAA Tournament has started, aka the First Four, with Florida Gulf Coast making easy work of Fairleigh Dickinson while Wichita State had a bit more trouble against Vanderbilt, but eventually pulled through to make into another tournament.

Things Worth Knowing About the NCAA Tournament First Four
One of the things that makes me smile as we head into the 2016 NCAA Tournament is that the round of 64 is the first round again, after the “injustice” done due to the introduction of the First Four preliminaries, which isn’t about anything but to generate more money by the NCAA, turning it into a 68-team tournament.

The field of 64 is complete after the First Four opening event has ended, with Dayton scratching by Boise State in a 66-65 win while Robert Morris pulled off an impressive comeback to send North Florida home, winning 81-77.

The first round of the NCAA Tournament began with Hampton beating Manhattan 74-64 which means they’ll face Kentucky next, while Ole Miss pulled off a big comeback in a 94-90 win against BYU, setting themselves up on a date with Xavier.

NCAA Tournament – Tennessee Over Iowa, Cal Poly Over Texas Southern
We’re done with the first four, so the real NCAA Tournament can begin, even if it starts with the second round. The picture of 64 teams was complete as Tennessee beat Iowa in overtime 78-65, while Cal Poly had an excellent shooting performance to overcome Texas Southern, putting them in the bracket despite their losing record.

NCAA Tournamnet – North Carolina State & Albany Get Past First Four
Not everyone really agrees with the expanded NCAA tournament, which is the two nights of the First Four stage, but the winning teams don’t really care. The first two to go through? North Carolina State with a 74-59 win over Xavier, and Albany, beating Mount St Mary’s 71-64.

First Four – North Carolina A&T and Saint Mary’s Enter Big Dance
Instead of calling it a preliminary round, the NCAA prefers to give first round status to the first four games between teams that wouldn’t have made it in on the previous format. Still, that’s the way the world of College Basketball is moving, and North Carolina A&T, along with Saint Mary’s, made the most of the situation by winning the opening two games of the NCAA tournament.
