The NHL’s deadline to submit a bid for expansion teams has passed, and only groups from the cities of Las Vegas and Quebec City have made an official bid of the required a deposit of $10 million, with $2 million of that non-refundable.

Empty threats to relocate the Milwaukee Bucks to Las Vegas proved, as expected, meaningless. The Wisconsin state senate passed the new arena funding plan which means that no one is going anywhere, and that owners once again get massive financing from the public to build a new stadium.

The Milwaukee Bucks might be relocated to Las Vegas or Seattle if the current ownership group stays true to their threats of moving the franchise without money for a new arena, although it’s not going to be that easy, as it doesn’t seem the NBA or the owners actually want to make that switch.

Biggest American Cities With No Major Sports Teams
A large population in a city or a metro area doesn’t necessarily mean you get to have a team in the NBA, NHL, MLB or NFL. For example, places like Austin in Texas, quite close to one million people, have to settle for the Texas Longhorns in College Sports instead of a serious pro-team, although I’m not sure the people there see it that way.
