    Swimming World Championships – Day 6 Results, Gold & Medal Table

    Day 6 in the swimming pool was highlighted by two gold medals for Australia – Mitch Larkin in the men’s 200 meters backstroke and Bronte Campbell in the women’s 100 meters freestyle. Great Britain picked up a wonderful gold in the 4×200 men’s freestyle relay thanks to James Guy, Marko Koch of Germany picked up gold in the men’s 200 meters breaststroke and Kanako Watanbe of Japan brought gold in the women’s 200 meters breastroke.

    Swimming World Championships – Day 4 Results, Gold & Medal Table

    In the fourth day of swimming in the world aquatic championships, Adam Peaty took two gold medals – one in the 50 meters breaststroke and the other in the mixed 4×100 meters medley relay. Sun Yang of China won the men’s 800 meters freestyle again, Laszlo Cseh took gold in the men’s 200 meters butterfly and Katie Ledecky now has three gold medals from the Kazan meet after winning the women’s 200 meters freestyle.

    A strong day for Australia with two gold medals – Emily Seebohm winning the women’s 100 meters backstroke, and Mitch Larkin taking the men’s 100 meters backstroke. Katie Ledecky brought gold for the United States and smashed the world record in the women’s 1500 meters freestyle. James Guy produced another British gold medal in the men’s 200 meters freestyle, while Yulia Yefimova closed the day with the first Russian gold, winning the women’s 100 meters breaststroke.

    Two world records in finals, with Katinka Hosszu of Hungary winning the 200 meters individual medley by setting one, and Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden doing it for the second time in two days by winning the 100 meters butterfly. Adam Peaty of Great Britain, a world record holder, won a close one in the men’s 100 meters breaststroke, while Florent Manaudou of France claimed gold in the men’s 50 meters butterfly.

    The first day of the Swimming World Championships split four gold medals between four nations. Katie Ledecky crushed the competition in the women’s 400 meters freestyle, Sun Yang narrowly beat James Guy for the gold in the men’s 400 meters freestyle, the Australian women (Emily Seebohm, Emma McKeon, Bronte Campbell and Cate Campbell) took gold in the women’s 4×100 meters freestyle relay while France (Florent Manaudou, Fabien Gilot, Mehdy Metella and Jérémy Stravius) took advantage of the American and Australian absence to win the men’s 4×100 meters freestyle relay.

    World Records Set in the 2013 Swimming World Championships

    In the post special suits era of swimming you don’t expect too many records to be broken in the World Championships, and yet it happened six times in Barcelona, all by women swimmers, with Lithuanian sensation Ruta Meilutyte and another 16-year old, Katie Ledecky, both breaking two records during the meet, with Yulia Yefimova and Rikke Moller Pedersen adding a world record each.

    No less than 37 world record were broken during the 2012 Olympic games on the track, the pool, Cycling, Rowing, Weightlifting, Shooting and Archery competitions, with Usain Bolt anchoring the Jamaican team in the 4×100 and Rebecca Soni of the United States involved in no less than 3 new records, including setting two in the space of 24 hours.
