Day 6 in the swimming pool was highlighted by two gold medals for Australia – Mitch Larkin in the men’s 200 meters backstroke and Bronte Campbell in the women’s 100 meters freestyle. Great Britain picked up a wonderful gold in the 4×200 men’s freestyle relay thanks to James Guy, Marko Koch of Germany picked up gold in the men’s 200 meters breaststroke and Kanako Watanbe of Japan brought gold in the women’s 200 meters breastroke.
Following these results, the United States, Great Britian and Australia share the lead in the gold medal count with 5 each.
Men’s 200 meters backstroke – Mitch Larkin of Australia continues his dominance in Kazan with his second gold medal of the championship, swimming 1:53.58. Radosław Kawęcki of Poland took silver with 1:54.55 and the young Russian, Evgeny Rylov, took bronze with 1:54.60.
Men’s 200 meters breaststroke – Marko Koch of Germany wins his first gold medal in the world’s with a 2:07.76. Kevin Cordes of the United States swam a 2:08.05 to take silver, while former champion, Daniel Gyurta of Hungary, picked up bronze after swimming a 2:08.10.
Men’s 4×200 meters freestyle relay – Great Britian stun the United States through a great finish by James Guy to beat the struggling Michael Weiss. The Brits won gold through 7:04.33, while the USA picked up silver, swimming a 7:04.75. Australia took bronze, swimming a 7:05.34.
Women’s 100 meters freestyle – In a fabulous swim, Bronte Campbell won gold with a 52.52 race, picking up her second gold medal of the championship. Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden took silver, swimming a 52.70. Bronze went to Cate Campbell, making it a double podium for the Australian sisters, swimming a 52.82.
Women’s 200 meters breaststroke – Kanako Watanbe of Japan won the gold, swimming a 2:21.15. Mitch Lawrence of the United States took silver with a 2:22.44 and the bronze was shared by three swimmers – Jessica Vall of Spain, Rikke Moller Pedersen of Denmark and Jinglin Shi of China, swimimng a 2:22.76.
