Just like in most of Europe, the recession and the new FIFA financial fair play regulations beginning in 2013 have really cut expenditures to a minimum. Milan, Inter and Lazio hardly spent a Euro on new transfers, with only the champions Juventus making a big splash in the transfer market in order to keep their Serie A title in 2012-2013 as well.

Bologna got 24 year old striker Robert Acquafresca on a co-ownership deal from Genoa after spending last season with Bologna on loan, scoring 5 goals in 32 matches. They’ve also added Cristian Pasquato, a 23 year old forward from Udinese, on loan; Brazilian centre back, Roger de Carvalho, on loan from Tombense; Italian midfielder Tiberio Guarente on loan from Sevilla; Centre Back Cesare Natali, 33, from Fiorentina on a free transfer; 22 year-old Nigerian striker Kingsley Umunegbu who never actually played for Milan, also for free; Manolo Gabbiadini from Juventus on loan.
They’ve added defender Luca Rossettini from Seina and a talented young defender called Vincenzo Camilleri, on loan, from Reggina.
Talented 19 year old Ghanaian midfielder Amidu Salifu from Fiorentina on loan and former Italy’s U-21 squad goalkeeper Alberto Frison on a co-ownership deal.
The club made two purchases from Vaslui in Romania – Paul Papp, a 22 year old Centre back who has 11 appearances for the Romanian national team and Pavol Farkaš, a 27 year old Slovakian centre back. Veteran midfielder Roberto Guana arrived from Cesena; Alberto Paloschi returns for another season, on loan, from AC Milan, after scoring 5 goals for Chievo last season; 20 year old Ghana midfielder Isaac Cofie was signed from Genoa; David Di Michele, who had a good Euro, was signed from Lecce after scoring 11 goals for the relegated bound club last season.
Fiorentina’s biggest signing was Chilean former wonderkid Matias Fernandez, signed for €4.6 million from Sporting CP after three seasons with the Portuguese side, scoring 12 goals in 69 appearances. Fernandez has been capped 50 times for the Chilean national side, scoring 13 goals.
Alberto Aquilani ended his unsuccesful Liverpool chapter, moving to Fiorentina, along with Villarreal outcasts Broja Valero and Gonzalo Rodríguez.
Egyptian Ahmed Hegazy was purchased from Ismaily for €1.5 million; Mattia Cassani came over from Palermo after playing on loan for Fiorentina last season; Mounir El Hamdaoui, who missed an entire season due to his fallout with Ajax head coach Frank de Boer, arrived from the Netherlands, hoping to regain his scoring touch for La Viola; Defender Facundo Roncaglia arrived from Boca Juniors; Cristiano Lupatelli arrived on a free transfer from Genoa; Juan Guillermo Cuadrado arrived on loan from Udinese; Goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano arrived on a loan from Palermo, along with Francesco Della Rocca.
Genora’s only signing that is actually staying and not leaving on loan is Andrea Bertolacci, a 21 year old midfielder, arriving from Roma on a co-ownership deal.
Only two additions – Rodrigo Palacio from Genoa. The 30 year old striker who has played for Genoa these last three seasons, scoring 19 goals in 32 matches last season; Gaby Mudingayi, a 30 year old midfielder who spent the last few seasons with Bologna, joining on loan.
Busy summer for the Italian champions, busier than any other team in Italy. Mauricio Isla came from Udinese on a co-ownership deal worth €9.4 million. With him arrived Kwadwo Asamoah, also from Udinese, on a €9 million co-ownership deal. Nicola Leali, a 19 year old goalkeeper arrived from Brescia for €3.8 million; Lucio, a world cup champion with Brazil and Champions league champion with Inter came over from Milano on a free transfer after three seasons with the club; Alberto Masi arrived from Pro Vercelli on another co0ownership deal; Richmond Boakye, a 19 year old Ghanian striker from Genoa on another co-ownership deal.
Bakaye Traore, a central midfielder from Nancy; Riccardo Montolivo, who played quite well for Italy in Euro 2012, came over from Fiorentina on a free transfer. Montolivo has been with Fiorentina since 2005, playing 219 matches and scoring 17 goals, also making 37 appearances for the Italian national team; Edoardo Pazzagli , a 23 year old goalkeeper, also from Fiorentina, on a free transfer; Francesco Acerbi, a 24 year old centre back from Chievo; Kévin Constant from Genoa on loan.
Making only one addition, Franco Brienza, a 33 year old wingerwho played for Siena these last couple of seasons.
Andrea Rossi, a 25 year old defender from Siena; Dorlan Pabón, a 24 year old Colombian who plays as an attacking midfielder, arriving from Atletico Nacional; Ishak Belfodil, a 20 year old Algerian-French midfielder arriving from Lyon; Marco Parolo , a 27 year old midfielder who also made one appearance for Italy in 2011, arriving from Cesena after three seasons amd 11 goals for the club; Afriyie Acquah of Palermo coming on loan; Yohan Benalouane, 25 year old Tunisian–French defender, arriving on loan from Cesena.
Gianluca Caprari arrived from Roma on a co-ownership deal. He already played on loan last season with Pescara, scoring 3 goals for the club. Elvis Abbruscato arrived from Vicenza after scoring 19 goals over the last couple of seasons.
Panagiotis Tachtsidis arrived from Genoa after mostly being loaned out during his time with that club, coming on a co-ownership deal worth €2.5 million. He’s a 21 year midfielder who can play multiple positions, and another player from Genoa, Mattia Destro, on a €11.5 million deal. The 21 year old striker scored 12 goals for Siena last season. Federico Balzaretti, the 30 year old international arrived from Palermo after a very good Euro tounament for €4.5 million. Ivan Piris came on loan from Deportivo Maldonado.
Maxi Lopez arrived on loan from Catania; Lorenzo De Silvestri also came on loan, from Fiorentina.
Francesco Valiani, a 31 year old winger arrived from Parma after three seasons with the club; 18 year old Valerio Verre came over from Genoa on loan.
Jean-François Gillet, a 33 year old goalkeeper from Bologna; Matteo Darmian, a 22 year old defender coming on a co-ownership deal from Palermo after already spending last season on loan in Turin; Marco Migliorini, a 20 year old centre back from Chieti; Matteo Brighi, the 31 year old midfielder going coming on loan; Gianluca Sansone, a striker from Sassuolo; Guillermo Rodríguez, a 28 year old Uruguayan defender from Cesena.
Thomas Heurtaux, a 24 year old French defender came over from Caen; Willians, a 26 year old Brazilian defensive midfielder arrived from Flamengo.
