NFL Rumors: Chiefs, Patriots & Jets Interested in David Cobb

David Cobb

Released by the Tennessee Titans in late August, David Cobb, entering what would be his second NFL season, his moving around, visiting and working out for teams. Right now, the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets are showing interest.

Cobb most recently gave the Jets a chance to look at him, previously working out for the Pats and Kansas City. He wasn’t great in 2015, and a run-heavy offense that will now feature DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry as their top 2 running backs, and a depth chart that didn’t have room for the former Minnesota back.

Cobb had a bad rookie season, rushing 52 times for 146 yards in 7 games, scoring one touchdown. A fifth round pick in 2015, he was unable to distinguish himself or show some of the promise the Titans initially saw in him when they chose him. He was second-team all-Big Ten in 2014, rushing for 1626 yards and 13 touchdowns, finishing his career with the Golden Gophers strong after two uneventful first seasons.

The Jets also look like a team he might find difficult to get on, with Matt Forte, Bilal Powell and Troymaine Pope on top of the RB depth chart, following the release of Khiry Robinson and Dominique Williams. They might carry four running backs into the new season anyway, but Cobb looks less impressive than some of the other names on the free agent market.
