NFL Rumors: Pittsburgh Steelers Interested in David Cobb

David Cobb

Recently becoming a free again, David Cobb is getting a lot of interest around the NFL, at least in work out level. The Pittsburgh Steelers become the fourth team taking a close look at him.

Cobb, released by the Tennessee Titans after one unimpressive season in the NFL, has already been in touch with the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets. The Jets seem like the most unlikely of options, while the Chiefs and Pats probably present a better opportunity, although Cobb does need to erase the impression he left last season.

The 23-year old averaged just 2.8 yards per carry last season, rushing for 146 yards on 52 carries, scoring one rushing touchdown. He didn’t distinguish himself in the passing game either, catching just one pass for a negative 2 yards. His ability to show he can block and catch the ball during these workouts, unless he’s a much better runner than he showed last season, might determine if he does end up playing for another NFL team.

The Steelers will be missing Le’Veon Bell for the first three games of the season, giving DeAngelo Williams the helm as #1 RB for the first three weeks. Behind him on the running back depth chart are Fitzgerald Toussaint and veteran Daryl Richardson, who hasn’t appeared in a game since 2013, which makes it less than surprising the Steelers are looking at other backs. Karlos Williams has also worked out for the Steelers, but being suspended for the first four games of the season isn’t helping him find a team.
