2016 College Football Season: 11 Teams Still Undefeated After Week 6

The number of undefeated teams keeps dwindling down, with only 11 remaining after week 6: Three in the Big Ten (Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska), two in the SEC (Alabama, Texas A&M), two in the Big 12 (Baylor, West Virginia), one in the ACC (Clemson), one in the MAC (Western Michigan), one in the Mountain West (Boise State), and one in the Pac-12 (Washington).

Five previously undefeated teams lost for the first time in week 6: Houston at Navy, Miami at home to Florida State, Maryland at Penn State, Air Force at Wyoming and Tennessee at Texas A&M.

Michigan Rutgers

Of the three Big Ten teams with 0 losses, Nebraska didn’t play. The number 2 ranked Ohio State played at home against Indiana, and after a rough start and an overall weak passing day by J.T. Barrett, overcame the difficult Hoosiers, winning 38-17. Michigan set a few records by beating Rutgers 78-0, which included holding the Scarlet Knights to just 39 yards of total offense.

In the SEC, Alabama didn’t get caught up in anything beneath them vs Arkansas, jumping to an early lead and wasting away another SEC West opponent, winning 49-30, including four touchdowns Jalen Hurts was responsible for. In a big top 10 clash between #9 Tennessee and #8 Texas A&M, the Aggies finally found a formula that doesn’t include allowing the Vols back from behind, becoming the first team to beat them this season, winning in second overtime through Trevor Knight with the game-winning touchdown.

In the Big 12, both Baylor and West Virginia didn’t play. Clemson didn’t let their win against Louisville go to their heads, and ran all over Boston College, winning 56-10 in Alumni Field, courtesy of 4 touchdown passes by Deshaun Watson. Western Michigan improved to 6-0 this season by beating Northern Illinois 45-30.

Boise State didn’t let a potentially tricky visit to New Mexico undo their hard work, winning 49-21 with a 28-0 run in the second quarter against the Lobos. Last but not least are the Huskies from Washington, who ended their 12-game losing streak to Oregon in impressive fashion. They’ve already crushed Stanford this season, now it was the Ducks turn. Oregon lost their fourth consecutive game, as Washington dropped 70 points on them in a 70-21 win. The last time Oregon gave up more than 70 points was in 1941.
