NHL Standings & Scores

A busy night of hockey, with the Toronto Maple Leafs getting their first win of the season, and so did the Chicago Blackhawks thanks to a Richard Panik hat trick. The Pittsburgh Penguins improved to 2-0 behind Phil Kessel and Marc-Andre Fleury, and the Colorado Avalanche survived the high scoring affair with the Dallas Stars, led by a hat trick from Joe Colborne.

Boston Bruins 1  Toronto Maple Leafs 4: Toronto get their first win of the season, with a couple of assists from Tyler Bozak that stood out. Auston Matthews was a lot more subdues this time, managing two shots on goal, nothing more.

Montreal Canadiens 3  Ottawa Senators 4: The Senators win in a shootout. Ottawa led 2-0 after goals from Ryan Dzingel and Zack Smith, but had to score a goal with less than 3 minutes remaining to escape a loss, saved by Tom Pyatt. In the shootout they won 2-1, with Erik Karlsson scoring the winner.

New Jersey Devils 2  Tampa Bay Lightning 3: Valtteri Filppula broke a 2-2 tie in the third period with what turned out to be the game winning goal, and keeps the Devils on 0 wins after two games this season.

Detroit Red Wings 1  Florida Panthers 4: A big day for JOnathan Marchessault, scoring one goal and adding a couple of assists, while Petr Mrazek stood firm in goal, finishing with 34 saves, as the Panthers improve to 2-0, while the Red Wings remain win-less.

Anaheim Ducks 2  Pittsburgh Penguins 3: The defending Stanley Cup champions win again, with second period goals by Conor Sheary and Phil Kessel putting them too far out of reach for the Ducks, who also had to deal with Marc-Andre Fleury, making 34 saves out of 36 attempts.

New York Islanders 1  Washington Capitals 2: Daniel Winnik dominated from the right win as the Capitals won their first game of the season, scoring twice, as the Islanders couldn’t find a breakthrough in the scoreless third period, thanks to Braden Holtby at goal.

San Jose Sharks 3  Columbus Blue Jackets 2: If it wasn’t for Sergei Bobrovsky, the Sharks would have had a much more dominant win. Patrick Marleau scoring in the third period with less than a minute to go, despite the reply goal by Josh Anderson, made it clear San Jose weren’t going to let the win slip away.

Winnipeg Jets 3  Minnesota Wild 4: An impressive comeback for the Wild from being two goals down early in the first period. Matt Dumba tied the game in the second period on a power play, and Eric Staal gave Minnesota the lead with 5 minutes to go in the second. Jonas Brodin gave them a two-goal lead after 14:08 in the third.

New York Rangers 2  St. Louis Blues 3: The Blues scored their three goals within the first 22 minutes of the game, and managed to hang on from there, getting 33 saves from Carter Hutton. Paul Stastny stood out with a goal and an assist.

Nashville Predators 3  Chicago Blackhawks 5: The Blackhawks finally win their first game of the season, needing a Richard Panik hat trick to pull through against Nashville. His power play goal in the third period to make it 4-2 eased a lot of pressure of the Blackhawks.

Dallas Stars 5  Colorado Avalanche 6: In the big scoring affair of the evening, it was Joe Colborne of Colorado who stood out with a hat trick, as Colorado came back from 0-2 down, opened a 3-goal lead and then managed to hang on while the Stars stormed back, led by Tyler Seguin with two goals and an assist.

Philadelphia Flyers 3  Arizona Coyotes 4: The Coyotes make their season debut and win it, thanks to Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s goal in overtime. Martin Hanzal, involved in the winning goal, also scored one earlier.

Calgary Flames 1  Vancouver Canucks 2: The Canucks win in a shootout to keep the Flames without a win this season, with Brandon Sutter scoring the winner after seven consecutive misses or saved shots.
