The second weekend of the Premier League opened with Manchester United thrashing Swansea, another 4-goal performance that included goals from Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba. Liverpool narrowly beat Crystal Palace from Sadio Mane, West Brom remained perfect despite playing with 10 men in the final minutes at Burnley, and Arsenal lost for the first time this season, falling unsurprisingly to Stoke.
Swansea 0 Manchester United 4: Another 4-0 win for Manchester United, while Swansea prove that they are the number one candidate to be in the bottom 3 this season. Eric Bailly opened the scoring late in the first half, and after another frustrating stretch, goals from Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial made the match look more one sided than it actually was.
Bournemouth 0 Watford 2: A poor performance from the Southerners again, while Watford prove that their first week performance against Liverpool was no fluke. Richarlison and Etienne Capoue scored for a side that narrowly avoided relegation last season.
Burnley 0 West Brom 1: Another less than easy-on-the-eyes performance from the Baggies, but Tony Pulis has his team with a perfect 6-for-6 points, without conceding a goal. This time they waited until the 71st minute to get one from Hal Robson-Kanu, who also got sent off 12 minutes later for elbowing Matt Lowton. Burnley found out it’s not easy playing against 11 men, or even 10.
Leicester 2 Brighton 0: After a hectic start to the season for Leicester that ended in disappointment, they looked solid from the get go in a comfortable home win over a lackluster Brighton team, still without a goal this season. Shinji Okazaki scored after 52 seconds due to an awful mistake by Brighton’s keeper. In the 54th minute, it was Harry Maguire scoring off of Ryad Mahrez’ corner.
Liverpool 1 Crystal Palace 0: Liverpool didn’t look very capable of scoring until the introduction of Mohamed Salah in the second half. It was Sadio Mane, scoring his second goal of the season, who lifted the spirits at Anfield, giving the team its first win of the season, while Palace remain without a goal or points.
Southampton 3 West Ham 2: A wild match at St. Mary’s eventually went Southampton’s way, with Charlie Austin converting a penalty kick in the 93rd minute. Earlier, goals from Manolo Gabbiadini and Dusan Tadic (also a penalty) were overturned by a Chicharito double, his first goals for his new club, but they weren’t enough to deny West Ham their second consecutive loss to start the season.
Stoke 1 Arsenal 0: Another disappointing result for the Gunners against Stoke, who enjoyed a goal from Jese, the new arrival from Real Madrid, scoring on his debut. It’s the first loss of the season for Arsenal, who look unimaginative and predictable on offense with Alexis Sanchez trying to force out a move.
