Tottenham Cheat Their Way to a Draw at Anfield Against Liverpool

Mohamed Salah

Twice Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead in their big match against Tottenham. Once it was a terrific Victor Wanyama strike that equalized. The second time, deep in injury time, it was a shameful dive by Erik Lamela that won Spurs a penalty, converted by Harry Kane, who also missed one earlier.

Liverpool took the lead within three minutes, when a bad back pass by the Spurs defense allowed the Egyptian phenom to comfortably convert in front of goal.

As it usually happens with Liverpool, when they don’t score a second goal, they concede. A less than ideal parry by Loris Karius sent the ball straight to the Kenyan midfielder, who scored his best goal since arriving in the Premier League, only one minute after coming on.

A minute later, and Kane was put in a one on one situation thanks to bad Liverpool defending. He went by Karius and started falling before the German goalkeeper clipped him, but Kane kicked it straight down the middle from the spot, missing the penalty.

In injury time, Salah toyed with four Tottenham defenders to score one of the best individual goals we’ve seen this season. However, Virgil van Dijk colliding with Erik Lamela, who put on quite an act, won over the assistant referee after the main official, Jonathan Moss, already let the match play on. In both cases, it was the assistant who made the decision instead of Moss himself.

Liverpool probably robbed of two points, as they remain third, 2 points clear of Tottenham, but if Chelsea win their match tomorrow, Liverpool fall to fourth. Spurs remain fifth, outside the Champions League qualifying finish, for now.
