NFL Rumors: Patriots & Chiefs Interested in Signing Allen Bailey

It’ll probably come down to one of two options for defensive lineman Allen Bailey: Staying with the Kansas City Chiefs, or making a switch for the 1st time in his NFL career and joining the New England Patriots.

Mike Reiss of ESPN reports that Bailey, who met with the Patriots earlier this month, is still considering staying with the Chiefs. He’s played his entire career in KC, a 3rd round draft pick out of Miami in 2011. Since he’s appeared in 102 games (61 starts), compiling 207 tackles, 19.5 sacks and even one touchdown off a fumble return last season.

Bailey, who appeared in all 16 games for the Chiefs last season, entered free agency after completing a 4-year, $25 million deal he signed in 2014. Staying in Kansas City would mean a new position for him, as the Chiefs move to a 4-3 defense. Bailey played as a defensive end in the 3-4 scheme previously, with his efficiency rankings as an interior defender not the most impressive.

Bailey met with the Chiefs who are interested in adding him to play defensive tackle as well, a position they’re quite thin at. Signing Mike Pennel did help, but losing Malcolm Brown to the Saints and Trey Flowers to the Lions has left them in need up the middle. They might also end up missing out on bringing back Danny Shelton, still a free agent.
