Canelo Alvarez, the four-weight boxing champion, took a shot at his latest victim, the former light-heavyweight champion, Sergey Kovalev. The Mexican said that Kovalev is a “bad loser,” referring to the Russian’s recent statements.
Kovalev Blames Tight Schedule
Kovalev, the 36-year old veteran, recently revealed that he accepted the fight with Alvarez solely because of a big paycheck. He was aware of the fact that he won’t be in the best shape coming into the same, due to a small gap between this and the previous contest he had.
The bout with Alvarez was just 32 days following Kovalev’s title defense against Anthony Yarde. The Russian won that one by TKO in 11th round. However, he suffered a loss against Canelo, alco by a TKO in the 11th.
Krusher tried to explain that his preparations for these two fights were too close, and that he couldn’t recover his body enough for the clash with Canelo.
Alvarez was very harsh in response, saying that all the boxing experts know that every fighter has the same problems. He also added that he doesn’t mind about Kovalev’s remarks and isn’t feeling bothered by them.
He also added that all the stories about his matches being fixed, are not an issue to him, because he knows that it is all a part of the job.
No Vol. III Versus Golovkin, Wants Mayweather
Canelo ruled out the possibility of meeting Gennady Golovkin for the first time. The Mexican stated that he doesn’t have an interest in that, as he already gave a chance to the GGG who didn’t use it.
His fights against GGG were superb, with the first one ending with a draw and the second with Canelo’s win via majority decision.
However, he mentioned that he would like to meet Floyd Mayweather Jr. The American champion hinted his possible comeback from the retirement in 2020, tickling the imagination of all the boxing fans.
The two had a meeting back in 2013. It was the biggest boxing fight in history, billed as “The One.” Mayweather won on a majority decision, and inflicted the first career loss to Canelo.
If the rematch happens, we might expect the most profitable fight of all times.
