Mayweather vs Pacquiao – We Got Talks

We’ve been here before these past few years, with the Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather camps meeting and talking, eventually unable to close a deal and get us a fight. Still, having Manny Pacquiao confirming that negotitioans to get the fight is pretty big news.

Where do we stand – Floyd Mayweather has a fight booked on May 5. Opponent? It started as rumors from the Mayweather camp, saying he looking for the biggest fight possible. Not a big secret what that is. Mayweather’s return to boxing with his knockout win over Victor Ortiz quickly put the Pacquiao – Mayweather talks back on everyone’s lips.

Manny Pacquiao has just come off a majority decision win over Juan Manuel Marquez, needing an all out assault on the Mexican in the final two rounds to get that win. Every time someone loses a close one, it’s popular to say he should have won. Marquez shouldn’t have won. A draw, maybe. He just didn’t do enough to win.

Fast Forward, nearly two weeks since. Panic at the Pacquiao camp. The flaws have been expsed. Weaknesses that weren’t there suddenly float to the surface. Come on. Certainly some signs of worrisome tactics have appeared, but panic? Maybe in Bob Arum’s mind. Arum doesn’t want the Mayweather fight to happen, not right now. Seeing Manny’s indecisive victory over Marquez made his realize two things.

1. Pacquiao may actually lose to Mayweather, so there’s no reason in putting the two in the ring together. Arum has a limited time in which he can get tons of money off Pacquiao fights, why send him to lose against Mayweather and pretty much lose his money making machine?

2. There’s a market for a fourth Marquez fight. Pacquiao can’t destory him, he can hardly beat him. Why not milk some more out of this rivalry, with the fourth fight promising to be just as tight, just as good, with revenge, a word that always sells fight, floating around in the air.

It’s been common belief that for Pacquiao to get his Mayweather fight, he needs to stand up to Bob Arum. Apparently, that has happened. It’s too soon to rejoice, but according to Manny, Negotiations are ongoing for my fight with Mayweather, but nothing is final, Mayweather may be thinking ‘I can fight Pacquiao now because he had trouble against Marquez, and I was able to beat up Marquez’.

Last time these negotiations came apart due to the issue of blood testing and their timing. If Mayweather won’t get the Pacquiao fight he wants for May 5, 2012, another lucrative option may come to the table. Sergio Martinez, the WBC Middleweight champion and #3 on most Pound-4-Pound rankings is dying for a big fight. His division is rather empty, not giving him the opportunity for big money, and glory. To be considered one of the best pound-for-pound I just need this little push, a great fight with one of the two. I feel as if I have achieved nothing yet in boxing. Nothing. If I quit tomorrow people would forget about me. I would even forget about myself.

  1. Mayweather booked fight on May 5th. I agree he is looking for a big fight. Pacquiao is tempted with that but since Floyd who booked the site, it will means “my house, my rules”. That alone is a scary thought. You know Floyd is very controlling making sure he got his advantage. Then his rules will be?
    a. Pacquiao will be banned to train in the Philippines. (That alone is an absurd demand)
    b. Random test, where he control when even it is random (Pacquiao never been tested positive in all of his fight and Mayweather knew that but using it as a psychological advantange.
    c. Split that he loves to get is 70-30 (for the reason that he is undefeated)
    d. Weight, gloves, color, names etc..
There you go folks, this fight will be impossible. My energy already gone thinking about it and i’m not even Pacquiao.

  2. Hey Kurat? Sounds like to me your boy Pacquiao should have taking the first deal he wanted the first time..Pacquiao had every thing he wanted in the first negotitioans. Don’t cry now because he can’t this time around. Blame your boy Bob Aurm too. I’m for sure not interested in seeing Marquez Whoop Manny again. I don’t need four fights to see who is the better fighter between those two. But I would like to see Mayweather fight any fighter with no problems with a drug test at this point.. I like Manny but drug testing issues has gotten old to me he just needs to move on too.

  3. SoClear– thank you for supporting me.. but I think you’re a numbnuts.. that’s why I like a fan like you.. Anyways, what’s wrong if I made that kind of demands huh, KURAT?

  4. Nothing wrong with Pacquiao first demands.. He just should have taking the fight if he was happy with it. But oh yeah! drugs!.lol

  5. Man like Soclear said..Manny had everything he wanted in the first negotiations including his 14 day window..and his response was..”i didn’t except because I thought Floyd was trying to play mind games”….well dumbass you messed up all the way. And i can’t believe Manny said Floyd want to much to fight when he wanted 10MILLION DOLLARS for every pnd Floyd was over..thats crazy. He know he has no chance at beating Mayweather.

  6. Kurat – Pacquaio is also controlling or certainly the people he is with are they make plans for everything including a boxers weight against the normal rules in order to gain an advantage for Pacquaio this has been proven time and time again by Freddie Roachs own mouth.
No one can ban Pacquaio from training in the Philippines only Floyd Sr who is not on Floyd’s team stated that anyone with any intelligence don’t put a minute to what that idiot says a great trainer but doesn’t have a sharp business mind. WADA stated they would choose USADA to do any testing and USADA can go to the Philippines to obtain samples so Pacquaio can train there.

Pacquaio has been tested under the same method and organisation as Shane Mosley and a multitude of boxers who later admitted that they had been using PEDs when the test had passed them as clean so that’s not really an argument or a defence. Floyd does not control the dates USADA do this organisation is recognised by the US congress and IOC under no circumstances would they risk their reputation for anything or anyone to suggest as such is pure ignorance.
Pacquaio demanded 60-40 when Floyd had not even fought Marquez after which he wanted 50-50 he has stated here and there that he should get the most money so is it really floyd asking for the biggest slice? Floyd outsells pacquaio so 60-40 is the average split that represents the revenue generation by each although I think 50-50 would be the final amount no indication has been given that anythign else has been discussed so why invent %’s?
Pacquaio has been the one to dictate weight, gloves ring size etc so don’t try your nonsense last time pacquaio wanted his name first and Floyd agreed things have changed why should Floyd be named last when he is the star. Let there be no doubt Floyd is the reason pacquaio is populsr he is suppose to be the Floyd slayer so Floyd comes first pac chose the gloves 8 oz already
we realise you are not Pacquaio Bob Arum would get angry with his pet if you wrote this without his permission

  7. U guys have 2 quit believeing what your thoughts decieved u 2 believe.. I will sum this all glorious debate until a fight is made n produce this outcome.. floyd is if ever happn.. n will destroy pacquioa boxers have tactical n gereral ringmanship… it was no dout marquez exploded manny lack of being able 2 box.. wanting 2 get over energize n fight.. the outocme of that fight did not demonstrate the way the fight look.. boxin stats neither marquez looked stronger more relaxed like the boxer.. vernon forrest .. even historical leanord n hagler.. the boxer has produce the shockin outcome jus as it was obvious marquez vs pacquioa the 3rd… if the boxin world gives us this fight the outcome will still defeat floyd.. cuz he is boxing … n a fighting world… they will bring up sergio r berto.. r victor r whoever… simple math says floyd MOVE ON… U R THE BEST IT TOOK A FIGHTER.. EXCUSE ME A FIGHTER\BOXER 2 SHO THE WORLD THAT WHO WE DECLARED P4P NUMBER 1.. COULD BEAT A GUY I DON’T THINK IS IN THE TOP10 ATLEAST NOT CONVINCINGLY.. NOTICE PACQUIOA IS N ON MY LIST.. WAKE UP PPL…

  8. I do not believe that Pac wants this fight. His camp has already positioned themselves to blame Arum when the fight does not take place. As a result, Pac will not look like he is ducking Floyd. I am personally not interested in seeing them fight simply because Pac is nothing more than a media creation. But in reality he is just a big farce. As Kellerman stated when he announced the fight: Marquez “still had something left”. He then subtly suggested that Pac’s other opponents were washed-up. In other words, put Pac into the ring with any viable opponent he’ll likely lose. Marquez didn’t do anything spectacular; He only boxed and didn’t take any risks. Pac assumed wrong that Marquez would be washed-up by now. This is the only reason Pac took the fight.
Pac and Arum are running out of options. There are no more washed opponents with big names for him to fight and he will likely lose to any of the viable fighters who are currently available. He is more likely to have a rematch with Marquez than fight Floyd. All on this talk about negotiation is only to keep Pac from looking like a complete coward.

  9. Let’s do this.. instead of manny floyd since floyd has obviously scared poor manny camp out of boxing r having any of a chance at beatin him …. let’s let floyd. Have a rest in victory for all his hard work… let’s see manny fight another one of floyd great competitors let’s see A Victor ORTIZ VS MANNY PACQUIOA FIGHT.. STYLES MAKE A FIGHT.. 2 FIGHTERS THE OLE THE NEW.. THIS IS THE FIGHT THE WORLD WANTS 2 PROVE FLOYD DOMINANCE OVER (BOXING) HIS SKILL HIS GENERAL SHIP HIS HEART WHY THIS SPORT WAS AT A TIME THE GREATEST SPORT N THE WORLD.. WHY THIS SPORT GREW DOMINANCE SINCE EARLY 1900S WHY THIS WAS DEFINED AND PRONOUNCED AS (BOXING) N WHEN U CREATED A CHARACTER 2 FOLLOW THE WAYS OF A CREATIVE ART IT CONTINUES 2 GROW … MUHAMMMEDS… LOUIS… CHAVEZ… LEWIS… LEANORD… HAGLER… DE LA HYAS… TYSONS….. LIMPSEYS… MAYWHEATHERS…. ETC… N DO PAY THE JUDGES R ALLOW POPULARITY 2 WIN.. ALLOW THE SPORT THE ART 2 CREATE N CONTINUE DEFINING EXPECTATIONS CHARACTERS DREAMS. Into REALITY.. IF NOT… FLOYD WOOP. HIS ASS.. HIM R SERGIO RETIRE NN I HEADED 2 UFC……

  10. None of you know $hit, it’s a fight. No one knows whose going to win until they win. I’m so tired of “Pac Man would KO Floyd” and “Floyd will smash Manny’s @$$”. The reality is that you don’t know. Anything can happen in a fight. If anyone out there knows for sure who’s going to win, when and if they fight, bet your house, car, dog and nuts on the fight. Go on, I dare you!!!

  11. Is it possible that the claim that they’re negotiating with Mayweather’s camp is just a way of distracting boxing fans from how pissed off they were last week when Pacquiao’s camp seemed to say that he would do a rematch with Marquez and not fight Mayweather at this time?

  12. “Justin” be a boxing fan not a fan of just one boxer, everyone May fought PAC has fought also including Cotto Clottey & Margarito, it’s stupid to mention that PAC has no other “washed up big names ” to fight if that’s true the same goes 4 May I can’t tell you who would win cuz it would be ignorant for me to say, as a boxing fan (preferably PAC fan) May has the better all around TRUE BOXING SKILL! PAC has his own good speed & a GREAT punchers chance to knock May’s lights out. All I’m trying to say is all you May fans need to stop acting like he’s paying to be his fans hop off the wagon & just be a all around critic, the same goes for the so-called Pactards hop off the wagon & love the sport. As for the Marquez fight I call it a draw & PAC won bcuz of all the backpedaling JMM did & the 2 rounds he gave up at the end. To be the champ you MUST BEAT THE CHAMP! Happy Thanksgiving everyone

  13. I called this whole scenario before it all even happened. first thing is Justin is 100% right when he said manny is just a media creation. Thats all he is! How can u call someone who’s been KO’d before the best p4p fighter over someone who has never hit the canvas!?!? (the so called zab judah knockdown was BS IMO still). Aside from all that. i knew that after marquez-pacquiao 2, Arum had a plan for him (especially since mayweather wasnt dealing with Arum anymore) he needed a new cash cow. all of manny’s fights have all be coerced by arum..down to the results!!! all these fights they went after against fighters that floyd already threw out the window, all the while you had marquez literally BEGGING for a rematch! they were ducking him for 3yrs! Why?? cuz they knew marquez was gonna get in his ass and expose the hype they generated. they figured they would go ahead and wait thinking marquez’s age would catch up and they could put manny in there with him as another washed up fighter. But it BACKFIRED! it didnt take the 3rd fight for me to relaize mayweather could beat Pac. Mayweather is 42-0….thats 42 times of dealing with all different styles and not one of them has stopped him. Manny’s aggressiveness is nothing new…in fact its the aggressers that have the most trouble with mayweather because he’s the king of throwing you off ur game, slowing you down, and using his incredible speed to pick you apart. simple as that. he’s dangerous because he’s too calm in the ring. most people dont possess the gift to think in a fight, adrenaline takes over and we just react….floyd has that gift which is why he is so technical, accurate, and on point all 42 times! manny has no chance against him at all, no one does. I guess after the marquez fight, now Arum realized all that and now its time to pussy out and run from mayweather. Pac gonna need them roids to even stand a chance, so testing is out the window for them!!! LOL

  14. “BxingFan”, while it is true that Pac and Floyd have fought some of the same opponents, Pac is often criticized because he has fought them when it has become apparent that they are no longer viable. And I just happen to agree with that assessment as do most knowledgeable boxing experts. As I mentioned in my previous post, Max Kellerman basically stated this while commenting the Marquez fight. And you are right; we will never know who can beat who until two fighters meet in the ring. However, based upon preliminary estimations, it is very difficult for me to say that Pac has any chance against Floyd. After watching the two fights, I see a huge disparity in talent. And this disparity has become obvious to more spectators.
If Pac ever had any real talent, his talent was not allowed to mature because of the sheltered nature in which he has been handled. You would think that the so called P4P champ would have fighters like Bradley, Khan, Ortiz etc. on his list of opponents. But he does not. As a matter of fact, when has he ever fought any fresh young undefeated fighter? Maybe I’m wrong, but I just never have seen anything special about Pac. Take care and happy Thanksgiving to you as well.

  15. @ Justin says:
Sorry but Mayweather never fought any of the top guys in their prime – none !! Mosley and Oscar were both far from prime when Mayweather fought them . The only reason Manny fought them is to prove he could go up and compete in the higher weight class . And Floyd got scared after Manny defeated easier than he did .

    @ Rome says:
So your actually stupid enough to think since a guy has been knocked out that he should never be called the best ??? Hmmmm I recall Lennox Lewis getting knocked out by a nobody and he was called the best heavy weight after that ?? As far as a media creation Mayweather holds the belt for that and he’s proven it by dogging any real threat his entire pro years !

    @ tank says:

Floyd wants the USADA to do all the testing so he can build his own “Lance Armstrong” agency and be the only one that can get away with PED usage ! You and all the other Floydatics are fools to think the USADA can’t be influenced by money , that’s how they survive – They are recognized as the US testing agency not paid by or controlled by the US gov ! Are you really stupid enough to think Floyd is clean ? Floyd was in the Olympics he knows who to talk to and whos ass to kiss or wallet to fill to pass any testing . How could Floyd be 42-0 and be clean ? Well other than cherry picking all his opponents he has to be using PEDs ! I also think it’s kinda weird how Floyd or his team says nothing negative about a 40+ old African American boxer named Hopkins could come out a few months ago and dominate a younger fighter and look better than he did in his prime ?? Floyd sr said Hopkins has always led a clean life that’s why he could do it ???? Hmmmm

  16. “Rome”, Joe Calzaghe retired at 49-0, Rocky Maciano’s record was 46-0, both better than Floyd. Does that make them greater fighters?? The greatest boxer ever in my opinion was “Sugar Ray Robinson” 200 wins and 19 losses. Does that make the 19 that beat him better than him?? Ali, Roy Jones,Lenard and Tyson (yeah Tyson, he was a beast in his day)have all had TKO losses, yet I wouldn’t put Floyd with his undefeated record above these guys or PacMan for that matter.

“Justin” I don’t recall Floyd fighting Bradley or Khan either. The Ortiz fight, seriously, sucker punch much. And as for your preliminary estimations, I don’t think much people thought Ali would beat Forman or Frazer beating Ali or Roy Jones getting KO’d by Green in less than 20 seconds. You just don’t know, if you think you do, you don’t know boxing.

All I’m saying is, they’re both good fighters. Stop criticizing fighters and just enjoy boxing.

  17. Floyd has ROID RAGE PROBLEM !!!

Floyd Sr. and Son knows the ins and outs of PED usage that is why they talk so much about Pac on PED all the time. This is also the reason why Floyd and Sr. knows how to evade detection when Floyd uses PED.

Floyd has roid rage problem. It has been shown many times, in public and in domestic incident.

  18. @WTF which one is it is he chertry picking or is he PEDing up? If he was PEDed up why would he seek better testing he was in the Olympics and he didn’t have big financial backing that’s why he lost a fight where he actually won smart ass. The Olympics has top stringent testing which is why those seeking to fix fights just buy out the judges which Floyd couldn’t do.
When did I say the US government control USADA? I said they are recognised which means they have been vetted by the US government Floyd doesn’t own or control USADA why on earth would they risk all that for one guy who in all honesty couldn’t offer them as much money as they would lose if they risked it by allowing Floyd to control them so cut out your silly conspiracy theory it doesn’t shine with me.
So basically all boxers who are successful are on illegal PEDs? man you sound really stupid he is 42-0 because he works hard for it there has been no suggestions by anyone seriously that Floyd is on anything or has been other than this xylocaine that has been [proven stated as not allowed on the night of the fight (its legal for training though)
Why should Floyd say something negative about Hopkins? Hopkins has been great throughout his career and Floyd doesn’t have to face him so why would he say anything about Hopkins? To satisfy you? lol
I don’t really give a ff about what Floyd Sr thinks that’s his opinion so why are you using it? What has this got to do with anything what Floyd Sr thinks? Its his OPINION lol

  19. @floofighter Floyd nor his father have roid rage do you even know what it is you plonker? This pathetic reverse psychology crap isn’t going to work Floyd Jr is prepared to get more stringent random testing if he was on anyything not only would he NOT lose speed and strength as he got older he would NOT ask for anything other than commission tests.
Oh you and WTF learn what someone on PEDs actually does you actually perform better under it Floyd as he got older has gotten slower and has less power in his punches he has had to adapt to the situation okay now go back to sleep

  20. I’m tired of those who say that fans aren’t allowed to speculate based on history.

Pacquiao’s entire stardom is based on his last 7 fights. In the last 6 of those 7 fights, each of Pacquiao’s opponents have been coming off of the biggest loss of their careers. Some were even made to come in at catchweights.

Marquez, who happens to be the only top boxer that Manny has fought since 2008, won all three fights in most opinions.

I’m not saying this because he makes Pacquiao look ordinary. I’m not saying that because I hate Pacquiao. I’m saying this because he has consistently been able to outbox and school Pacquiao in 3 different fights.

As I rewatched Pacquiao/Marquez 3, I realized that many fans must have been swayed by the HBO commentators. Even when Marquez was picking manny apart the Stewart would comment on how strong Manny still looked, and Lampley would comment on how spectacular Manny’s footwork looked. It was an embarrassment for HBO.

Fans of ALL races and nationalities including Filipino commented on how Marquez was robbed. The British telecast stated that their should be an investigation of the judges of the fight.

We all know who won. We all saw who landed the cleaner, more effective punches and NEVER let Pacquiao get into a rhythm. It wasn’t a blowout, but it was certainly no less than 7-5 and no greater than 8-4 for Marquez.

The thing is, when you have Bob Arum in your corner, you can legitimize bullsh!t, and when you have a fanatical fanbase like pactards, they’ll buy into whatever Pacquiao says.

I’ve already read everything from problems in Manny’s personal life to leg cramps to foot stomping to Ariza being incompetent. Pacfans have truly proven themselves to be pactards. Well … most of them anyway. Some have actualy shown some integrity called it straight this time.

I’ve been saying that Pacquiao was all hype for years. I’ve been telling people that Pacquiao was a product of clever match-making and timing when a fighter is most vulnerable(once he’s lost).

Some now see it. While others still remain in denial .. hoping that there is some X-file type explanation for Pacquiao seeming less than even average against a 38 year old.

There is no explanation aside from the obvious: Pacquiao shines only against guys who are slow-footed and willing to stand and trade. That isn’t boxing. Its brawling. That’s a Rocky movie.

Sure some will argue that brawling is indeed boxing, but then they must concede that it is boxing in its most rudimentary form. So basic in fact that toughman contests look just like it.

The best have IMO always been the most skilled. Sure a strong brawler can have a good day and get an upset, but if he continues to face the best boxers out there, he’ll lose and soon.

That’s exactly why Arum was careful to match Manny only against men who had been damaged and beaten recently within 1-2 fights/tune-ups. After Marquez showed just how limited Manny was in 2 fights, Arum wasn’t willing to risk his newest cash cow in a fight against his old cash cow that could actually box.

In the end, Floyd isn’t the best because I say so. Or because anyone else says so. Writers only have opinions like the rest of us. They just get paid to share them.

Floyd is the best because he has consistently fought the best throughout his career. He has faced the #1 and #2 in every division he’s fought in except 140lbs. He’s the heir apparent of Roy Jones Jr. He’s the best boxer since Jones. In fact, technically Mayweather is much more sound than Jones. It doesn’t hurt that Floyd is undefeated against thee best in the last 14 years.

Floyd’s #1 P4P. He’s the best of this generation. He’s the highest paid boxer. That all speaks for itself. No hype. No exaggeration. No smoke and mirrors.

  21. The truth is, peeps, that they both have been playing cat and mouse. Up until Bob Arum’s antics (which probably arose after Marquez nearly beating Manny), I thought they were equally to blame for the fight not happening. It is clear now that Floyd wants this fight to cement his legacy. I am a Mayweather fan over Manny, but anything can happen in a fight. I will say Floyd is clearly the superior fighter overall, but that doesn’t undermine Pacquiao in the least – he has that puncher’s chance. We have seen Floyd get a bit flustered with overly aggressive guys, even though in the end he always finds ways to exploit them. Let’s just hope it finally happens for the sake of the sport!

  22. @Brother Jay…I have to disagree when you say Floyd has fought the best his whole career. Cotto, Margarito, Mosley (in his prime), Vargas when he was a beast…especially Cotto and Margarito. That fight would have been huge if May had taken on Cotto…but yeah other than those guys he hasn’t ducked nearly as many people as the uninformed like to pretend he has
