Mayweather vs Pacquiao Talks – Running Smooth or Not?

Everything is a matter of prespective, of who you ask and who you talk to. Manny Pacquiao himself claims there are just few little things to sort out before the May 5 fight with Floyd Mayweather is a signed deal. On the other end of the fence is Oscar De La Hoya from Golden Boy Promotions, saying things aren’t exactly fine and dandy.

Floyd Mayweather came out earlier this week, saying everything is done and done on his side and all he was waiting for is for Manny Pacquiao to agree. To what? The Mayweather approved drug testing, which supposedly dropped the deal last time we hadĀ negotiations. According to Pacquiao’s camp, theĀ FilipinoĀ has agreed to go along with every one of Mayweather’sĀ requirements.

Bob Arum, Manny Pacquiao’s promoter, has also said that a deal isĀ imminentĀ and there are very few things to sort out before everything was agreed upon.

From Manny Pacquiao himself, it actually sounds like a done deal –Ā We are ready.Ā If it pushes through, once he signs the contract then I’ll sign the contract. Only the little things are being worked out and negotiations are almost done.

Then comes out De La Hoya, and makes us see a different picture. The right one? I don’t know, but he pictures a very different tale than the one we’re hearing from the Pacquiao camp, spearheaded by Bob Arum.Ā Bob Arum, please please stop lying to the public. Sit down with my CEO RichardĀ SchaeferĀ and make the big fight happen. Before Manny asks questions.Ā Bob Arum is saying there are a bunch of investors he’s talking to, to try and make Pacquiao v Mayweather. I can’t stop laughing. Let’s do it!!!!! Golden Boy fighters vs Top Rank fighters. Oh sorry, Bob won’t do it.

First of all, Mayweather isn’t signed with Golden Boy Promotions, but he likes having the former Golden Boy himself around him when he signs deals. The whole “love triangle” in this whole potential fight isn’t helping business. Bob Arum isn’t a big fan of Mayweather and De La Hoya.

The thing I fear is that Arum will try and disrupt this fight fromĀ happening. Manny Pacquiao should get what he wants, and he wants to fight Mayweather. The problem is we don’t know how involved he is in the whole process. Eventually, if he’ll push for it, it’ll get signed a hell of a lot faster. But that’s just perception.

Why the whole media game and throwing blame on who’s ducking and who’s delaying? Just because. Floyd Mayweather, despite his behavior and the things he says, wants publicĀ appreciation. Not just for simple love from boxing fans, but for his place in the present and history, his place as one of the greatest ever.

His record, undefeated, 42-0, winning seven world titles in five different weight classes, certainly puts him there. But the fact that the whole reason he and Manny Pacquiao haven’t fought yet is usually pinned on Mayweather himself has to be changed, from his point of view. Maybe he does actually want to fight him, suddenly, after all this time. Maybe he doesn’t. Maybe he just needs to make it look like he’s the one making the effort.

Pacquiao’s reputation as a fighter took a hit with his unimpressive win over Juan Manuel Marquez, for a second time. Mayweather’s win over Victor Ortiz was just another reason for those who don’t like to hate him. Arrogance and borderline ethics in sports never win you neutral fans. A change in the Pound 4 Pound rankings for the first time in years and making an effort, at least publicly, does.

  1. “Arrogance and borderline ethics”—I agree, resorting to cowardly tactics that could have killed or maimed a future HOFer is despicable and deplorable to say he least. Good thing Mayweather put that dog down quick

  2. These promoters are all bad. Get out of the way and let them Fight the Fight already. In no other sport do participants bicker over who they battle in the championship. Real Kings take crowns.

  3. As much as i hate Bob Arum, Richard Schaefer is as bad of a liar as Bob himself and if the story is true that GBP is out of the negotiation, will make it easier for these 2 primadonas to sign the fight. Oscar de la Hoya needs a good business partner than Richard Schaefer cause Oscar deserves it as a former boxer himself. Richard Schaefer is dragging his company down. He is Bob Arum’s brother from another mother, the lesser of the 2 evil, greedy and corrupt.

  4. wack article blaming mayweather when everybody knows ppl makes demand for fights just like pacman wanted smaller gloves smaller ring size mayweather asked for 1 thing

talk about that cause if it was 1 thing he needed to do to fight pacman would have should have instead we wait 2+years but NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW its no problem ??? suspect aint it

  5. Arum is waiting for Floyd to take the defamation deposition by January as so ordered. Floyd wants to sign now, prefers to have the lawsuit dropped (and still wants Floyd-style testing) and possibly demand a 60/40 purse split. Good for dela Hoya – he already apologized because he has no proof that Manny was roiding.

  6. So many false articles out there claiming the fight is closer. But actually the fights never been further from reality. The biggest obsticle before the marquez fight was the steroid testing Pacman was so desperatly trying to avoid but now comes the reality of a poetntial mismatch and blow-out. Yikes

  7. Floyd wants to fight, or so he says, but he will insist on USADA testing, as opposed to WADA testing, and will then say that the USADA does not have reps in the Philippines, so Manny should train exclusively in the USA, which is fine, if Floyd is agreeable to training exclusively in the Philippines. Then Floyd will probably insist on the lawsuit being dropped and he will not agree to a 50-50 split. If Manny accepts all these conditions, then one can safely assume that he has lost his mind. In other words, Floyd is just tap dancing and expects people to get excited, but scholars of boxing won’t be fooled by these tap dancing tactics.

  8. Money Mayweather, Pacman been running from this man. And America is alaways hating on a black man with money. Money M. is not cocky he is confident. I mean he deserves it right? He has not been beat or close to being beat since his 1st fight! Give this guy the crown!

  9. How can this fight happen, Bob don’t trust Floyd!?, And, Floyd, only, like to be in the lamp-light!? what happen now, more on “Media Show”

  10. Didn’t you notice how quickly Floyd came out of his shell and challenged Pac after a borderline performance by Pac? Floyd challenged Manny to sign the contract, which goes without saying that the PEDs are not even an issue anymore. Rumor has it that Pac toned down his power with Marquez to bait Floyd and if this is true, it worked like magic! Had Pac KOed Marquez, everyone can kiss the monumental fight goodbye. It’s also good that Pac is considered the underdog, he fights better when the pressure is on him. Though I am not a big fan of Arum, GDP just has to admit that Arum has out-witted them. Why would Arum have two investors in so short a period of time if he wasn’t sure that Floyd would come out and challenge Pac? I guess Schaefer and ODLH should learn a thing or two on how to put a fight together. This is better than soap!

  11. Floyd, have no regards to “Human Race”, base to his racial slare video. Perhaps, we’re not rule-out, “race”, is also one of the essue?
According to Bob, May 5, 2012, is a JOKE!, all are Media Show?
