Mayweather vs Pacquiao – Different Views

It’s been a quiet week on the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao front. Besides Bob Arum telling us that despite rumors, mostly spread by Golden Boy Promotions, he’s all for a fight between the two Pound 4 Pound kings, we’ve had no news on any advancements in the negotiations.

So we’ll presume we’re where we left off – Arum and Pacquiao claiming that the talks are on, while Oscar De La Hoya has it made the whole subject rather mysterious. The talks are just starting, or maybe not at all. He preferred to take jabs at Arum.

Amir Khan’s fight with Lamont Peterson this weekend in Washington might be the biggest fight of the week and takes hold of most boxing related news, but it still can’t turn the attention entirely away from the most interesting two names in the sport. Amir Khan’s ties to both fighters are also a reason for this.

Amir Khan is trained by Freddie Roach, who is also Manny Pacquiao’s trainer. Khan was also Pacquiao’s sparring partner until he beat Zab Judah. Good and kind voices in the Pacquiao camp told him that pretty soon, when Khan makes his move from Light Welterweight to Welterweight, the two will be on a collision course. The sparring stopped, although the two still train in the same gym when in the United States.

Khan himself spoke this week about the chances of Pacquiao beating Mayweather – I don’t think Manny’s fading – his last fight was tough but that’s boxing for you. As I always say, if you’re going to go in a shower you’re going to get wet, if you’re going to go in a boxing ring you’re going to get hit. Predicting the outcome of that fight is too hard to call, but everyone wants to see it and I hope it happens.

According to David Haye, not exactly the most respected voice in British or world boxing since his disappointing fight against Wladimir Klitschko for the Heavyweight title, leading to his retirement until recently news of a possible fight with Vitali surfaced, Amir Khan is the only fighter who can beat Floyd.

The only way Khan could be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world is by beating Mayweather. And I believe the only guy that can beat Mayweather is Khan. He’s young and fresh so, if anyone has the physical tools, it’s him.

The man with the most confidence regarding Manny’s ability to beat Mayweather is Freddie Roach. Busy with Khan? Yes, but there’s always time to promote the Pacquiao – Mayweather business on the side, just so it doesn’t fade away from media’s eye.

Roach began with praises for the potential rival – I will bring in a whole new crew of sparring partners, guys that can imitate Floyd well. There isn’t a lot of guys in the world that are like Floyd, so it would be tough to find them. We would prepare for his counter punching ability, and his speed, which is maybe equal to Manny’s, if not better.

And finished, with expected, by revealing he has the formula to beat the undefeated Mayweather – Mayweather also has flaws which can be exploited. I think we can take advantage of those habits. He does have some bad habits that can be exposed
