120 Dennis Bergkamp Goals in 12 Minutes

Thierry Henry is the best Arsenal player of all time. I don’t think there’s a lot of argument about that one. The French striker, who now plays for New York Red Bulls, played eight seasons for Arsenal, scoring 226 goals in 339 matches, winning two league titles. Most loved player? Probably Dennis Bergkamp. Less goals, but unmatched in style, elegance and class.

There was something special about Bergkamp, no doubt. The touch, the powerful shots coming out of nowhere. The surprising speed. Watching these 676 second of video, putting together 120 Dennis Bergkamp goals scored for the gunners (he actually scored 122 in 237 matches), I found it hard to remember one “ugly” goal Bergkamp scored. No tap ins or lucky shots. All planned, many of them beautiful, quite a few classics.

Berkamps was at his best during the first league title under Arsene Wenger, in 1997-1998. He was fantastic in 2001-2002, but his part in the ‘Invincibles’ season two years later was smaller. He never achieved anything with the Netherlands, scoring 37 goals in 79 caps. Still, I can’t remember a Dutch player I enjoyed watching more than Bergkamp.
