Serena Williams defeated her older sister at the Wimbledon final, winning it for the third time and her 11th grand slam singles title. Serena won the first set with a tie break, winning the tie break 7-3. In the second set it seemed the fighting spirit left Venus and Serena took the second set as well rather easily, winning it 6-2 and winning the title.

Serena Williams broke Venus’ 34 straight sets won streak, dating back to two years ago, and also avenged her loss to Venus in last years final, that Venus took 6-4, 6-4. It was their 12th meeting in a grand slam, with Serena improving her record against Venus to 7-5 in the slams. It was their 8th meeting in a grand slam final, and now Serena holds a 6-2 advantage over her older sister in the really important matches.

Venus seemed to stroll throughout the entire tournament, not dropping a set, and the Semi Final against Safina which Venus won 6-1, 6-0 in contrast to Serena fighting and clawing her way out, facing elimination in the Semi Final against Elena Dementieva, which maybe gave most the impression that it will be Venus winning Wimbledon again, but Serena seems to have her sister’s number in Slam finals, and looked better than she did throughout the two weeks, while Venus just looked flat, tired and maybe a bit unprepared. The Williams sisters still have the Women’s doubles title to defend against Australian duo Stosur and Stubbs.
