Adebayor Completes 25 Million Pounds Transfer to Manchester City

After a few days of rumors, the deal is done. The Togolese striker, Emmanuel Adebayor, completed his move from Arsenal to Manchester City for 25 million pounds, joining strikers Carlos Teves and Roque Santa Cruz as the City’s new strikers and Gareth Barry who was purchased from Aston Villa earlier this off-season. Manchester City is current touring South Africa and Adebayor will join the team in the next few days.

Adebayor spent three and a half seasons with the gunners, scoring 46 goals in 104 games but didn’t get any silverware with the club. Manchester City won’t be playing in European competition next season but with the bulking of their squad, Mark Hughes has claimed his team will challenge for honours next season. The team is still looking for another defender, with Joleon Lescott and John Terry out of reach so far.

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger announced that he won’t be spending the money immediately but only if the right player and opportunity for signing comes along, as he has a big enough squad right now. Looking at the lack of trophies in Arsenal’s cabinet in recent years, maybe Wenger should reconsider his transfer policy.

In other transfer news from around the continent – Lyon continue to strengthen their squad and are proving that one season without a championship after seven straight is too much for the club. After signing Lisandro Lopez and Michel Bastos, another Porto player, Frenchman Aly Cissokho. The 21 year old left back was signed for 15 million Euros was also targeted by Milan. He spent only one season with the Portuguese champions. And on to Germany –

Hamburg completed the signing of Swedish striker, Marcus Berg, from FC Groningen of Holland. Berg spent two seasons with the Dutch club, scoring 33 goals in 56 games but had his star really rise after this summer’s U-21 European Championship, winning the golden boot and player of the tournament awards, scoring 7 goals, helping his team to the Semi Finals.
