John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats are in it for the whole thing, and so far there doesn’t seem to be anyone even near of interrupting their run to the final four. The Iowa State Cyclones made an impression by beating Uconn, but were hardly a match for the most talented group in College Basketball, losing 87-71 in the first day of the Last 32 action.

Kentucky weren’t the only #1 seed in action, as Syracuse didn’t have too much trouble in the 3rd round as they did two days earlier, beating the Kansas State Wildcats 75-59. Michigan State, facing Saint Louis, and North Carolina, facing Creighton, should make it another four for four from the #1 seeds.

Marquis Teague was the big star for Kentucky, who seem to find someone else each night to pull the extremely loaded wagon through with impressive colors. Teague finished with 24 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists in another memorable night for the freshman, averaging 9.9 points and 4.8 assists this season. He was probably the best player out of all the 8 games played.

The Cyclones did pull close at some point in the second half, but Kentucky went on a 20-2 run, ending any hope of another shocking upset. For now, Missouri and Duke are left alone in the most disappointing teams of the tournament. Anthony Davis with 15 points and 12 rebounds, Darius Miller with 19. Simply too much to handle for pretty much every team in the nation.

Indiana had a famous win earlier this season over Kentucky with a buzzer beater to grab the 73-72 win. One of the two teams to beat the Wildcats this season, the Hoosiers needed some more late game magic to pull through, setting up another meeting with Kentucky in the sweet sixteen round.

VCU made life impossible for a more talented team as only they can. They led throughout most of the game and the entire second half, but you can’t survive on defense alone. Will Sheehy grabbed a loose ball after a teammate was rejected, and his the jumper with 12 seconds on the clock to pull Indiana through, making their first Sweet Sixteen since 2002. That year ended with a trip to the Final and a loss to Maryland, something that looks unlikely, but you never know.

Aaron Craft was impressive for Ohio State (17 points, 10 assists) in their 73-66 win over Gonzaga, Marquette look good and knocked out Murray State who many thought could go far (62-53). Baylor were impressive in their 80-63 win over surprising Colorado, with Brady Heslip hitting nine 3-pointers, finishing with 27 points. Still, no one seems likely to touch Kentucky en route to a second consecutive final four appearance, and possibly a first national title since 1998.
