The first real busy day of conference tournament games in all the major conferences, as things were close in the ACC, including Duke squeaking by North Carolina State, and the Big 12. In the Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC, it was more about blowouts on their way to the second round or quarterfinals.

The ACC started out a day ahead of everyone with North Carolina State beating Wake Forest and Florida State moving onto the second round as well, having no problem beating the awful Boston College, who have failed to win a single conference game this season.

So what did we have among the top 25 teams on Saturday of January 16? Kansas and Oklahoma not impressing but avoiding more Big 12 losses, Notre Dame upsetting Duke, Maryland crushing Ohio State, North Carolina cruising past North Carolina State and Kentucky losing again, this time to Auburn, which shouldn’t be that big of a surprise.

After two Final Four appearances back to back, including losing in one national championship game, Bo Ryan is staying at Wisconsin for one more season to coach the Badgers, although it’s probably going to be his goodbye from Madison and College Basketball in general.

Some games leave you with a bad taste in your mouth, and Duke beating Wisconsin 68-63 to win their fifth NCAA Tournament and college basketball championship was certainly one of them, due to the referees making almost every possible mistake at critical juncture to help out the Blue Devils come away with the trophy.
