It always seems like a matter of time – when Real Madrid really want a player, eventually they get him. With Xabi Alonso it isn’t clear if he really wanted to leave Liverpool for Real and his agent kind of managed to smooth the deal a bit or is he another piece of the Galacticos puzzle assembled this summer at the Bernabeu.

Liverpool and Real Madrid finalized the deal that was talked about all summer at Anfield. Rafa Benitez was reluctant to let Alonso go, but eventually pushing his price tag to 30 million pounds paved the way for Alonso’s return to Spain and becoming the second Liverpool player, after Alvaro Arbeloa last week, to join Real Madrid. Liverpool will be now looking to sign a midfielder as soon as possible, with the league starting in 10 days. Alberto Aquilani from AS Roma is just one of the names mentioned as an option to replace Alonso, who has been with Liverpool for five seasons, winning the Champions League with them in 2005, playing 138 league games and scoring 15 goals during his time at Anfield. His deal with Real is rumored to be a 5 year contract. More names will surely pop up starting tomorrow.
Real Madrid have now spent over 220 million pounds in two months, blostering their squad with eight players, highlights by the Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo Mega Transfers.
