Not a great game for Chelsea, but Ancelotti has his first win in his debut in the English Premiership. Hull City stayed back and occasionally embarrassed Chelsea’s defense on counters, with one of them producing a Stephen Hunt goal, but Didier Drogba was there twice for Chelsea, once with a brilliant free kick and once with a half cross half chip in the 91st minute, giving Chelsea the win.

The first half was in Chelsea’s control, but besides Drogba sending a volley close to Myhill’s goal, Chelsea didn’t look too dangerous. Maybe it’s the need for time to adapt into the diamond formation brought by Ancelotti, with John Obi Mikel looking very bad as the anchorman, maybe it’s something else. Hull, although not going Gung Ho on Chelsea, didn’t sit back and were led by George Boateng and Stamford Bridge “icon” Stephen Hunt, which led to the goal after a Boateng shot bounced to Hunt who scored.

Chelsea started attacking from there, with Bosingwa and Ahsley Cole getting more and more involved. Eventually, a fantastic free kick from Didier Drogba was the chance that gave Chelsea the equalizer.

Chelsea kept the pressure on Boaz Myhill and Hull’s defense for the entire second half, but Anelka, Drogba Lampard and the rest just couldn’t put it in the net. Hull enjoyed a few chances, making Chelsea’s defence look confused at times, especially with crosses. Then came injury time, and Didier Drogba. A nice double pass with Deco and a failed cross attempt that turned out to be a goal, gave Chelsea the dramatic win.
