Not what the Argentinians hoped for, and probably more than what the Brazilians were hoping for. Brazil came to Rosario, looking dominant, relaxed and simply better than Argentina, beating them 3-1 after leading 2-0 in the first half, scoring twice from free kicks. Maradona’s side looked outclassed, and despite having most of the possession, didn’t look dangerous at all in the first half. The second half looked slightly better as Aguero came in for Tevez, but Julio Cesar stopped most of Argentina chances.
Jesus Datolo scored an amazing shot from 30 meters, but Kaka and Luis Fabiano teamed up for a quick crowd silencer and hope drainer just a minute later. Brazil are now through, 10 points clear of fifth place with only three games to go, while Argentina with only 22 points and six wins in fifteen games, are still not safe, with a very difficult trip to Paraguay coming up.
