Transfer Rumors 2012 – Liverpool After Fabio Borini

Brendan Rodgers is desperately looking for someone to help Luis Suarez carry the scoring load for Liverpool, and another one of his transfer targest may be a player he has coached in the past for the Chelsea Youth and at Swansea City, Fabio Borini of AS Roma.

Borini has been through quite a lot of teams over the last few years. Borini joined the Chelsea youth side at the age of 16 in 2007, but never managed to break through into the first team, making only 4 appearances for the club. He then moved to Swansea City to play under Brendan Rodgers,Ā spendingĀ half a season in Wales, scoring six goals in nine matches.

Borini was then actually purchased by Parma, but never played a match for them, getting loaned/co owned by AS Roma. Borini, 21, who has made his debut appearance for Italy back in February, had a very good second half of the season for Roma, scoring nine goals in 24 matches for the club, who then went on to sign the rest of his 50% from Parma forĀ ā‚¬5.3 million. That signing came while Liverpool were chasing the player, but failed to obtain the rights to the talented forward.

But now, it seems that Liverpool, with the power of Rodgers’ presence, are finally close to making their first signing of the summer. Rodgers himself, who’s been rather cryptic about the club’s transfer policy, commented about the prospect of signing Borini –Ā We hope to complete a deal this week which will be a real exciting one for the club.Ā He will be terrific, Iā€™m sure. And the supporters will absolutely love him.

Liverpool have finally been a bit more busy in the rumor mill lately, first with the news of the club trying to sign another attacking player, Clint Dempsey, from Fulham. Earlier today came the surprising ‘news’ of AC Milan showing a bit of interest in semi-flop and ultra-expensive Andy Carroll. Rodgers denied Milan approaching the club, but didn’t say the moving CarrollĀ somewhereĀ else was out of the question.

Liverpool will begin their preseason North American tour playing Toronto FC in Canada on July 21, with the news of Luis Suarez going to the Olympic games obviously hampering theirĀ preparationĀ plans. They will also play Roma, Tottenham and Bayer Leverkusen during their American tour.
