Maybe, just maybe, Liverpool are closing in on their first signing of the Brendan Rodgers era, as it seems that the only thing standing in the way between them and Fabio Borini is the player himself, as his club, AS Roma, have apparently agreed to sell him to the Premier League club.
Roma signed Borini for £4 million last month, ending the co-ownership situation with Parma after already paying £1.8 million in the beginning of the season for 50% of the player’s economic rights. After just one season in Italy, scoring nine goals in matches for the club, it seems the 21 year old might be on his way back to England.
According to Borini’s agent, Marco De Marchi, it’s pretty much up to Borini at this stage – Roma has informed us of Liverpool’s interest in the boy. Now it’s up to Fabio to have his say. We were alerted by Roma of the existence of this deal. I cannot honestly tell you the details but, as Sabatini has already said, we’re now seriously considering it. Would the player want to go to Liverpool? Honestly, I don’t want to commit myself as there will be more news in the coming days. Wait for that.
Borini was already linked with Liverpool last month, but after Roma completed the deal with Parma for Borini’s rights the 21 year old said he had never thought of joining Liverpool and insisted that he was a Roma player. Maybe re-thinking the whole matter, with Rodgers being his former manager at Swansea and also with the Chelsea reserves, will prove Borini a bit less reluctant to make the switch back to England.
However, Borini isn’t the only player Liverpool are after. Dortmund’s Jakub Błaszczykowski is one of Dortmund’s more sought after players this summer, especially after he captained Poland during their short Euro appearance, which included a brilliant goal by Kuba. He has been with Dortmund for the past five seasons, scoring 6 goals for the club last year. Liverpool had a lot of problems finding consistency last year on the right wing, and Dortmund have confirmed there are several clubs, including Liverpool, chasing the 26 year old. However, Dortmund aren’t too keen on letting anyone go after already selling Shinji Kagawa.
