Liverpool Don’t Impress as They Beat Debrecen 1-0

After the 4-0 win Saturday against Burnley, Rafa Benitez expected better performance from his team against the Hungarian Champions, Debrecen. Liverpool didn’t play badly – they were the dominant side for most of the 90 minutes and created much more chances, but the game didn’t flow as expected against a much inferior side that did play to score and not just sit behind and kick balls away.

Despite the lackluster performance, a nice combination of passes left Torres in a good situation, and despite Poleksic’s save, Dirk Kuyt scored off the rebound, leaving Liverpool with the three points.

In the other game in Group E, Lyon beat a 10-man Fiorentina team, with Pjanic scoring the winner 12 minutes from time.
