While the national title contenders had no problems what so ever in week 2; Alabama cruising against Western Kentucky, USC putting up big numbers against Syracuse and LSU demolishing Washington, the big move was #8 Arkansas losing at home to Louisiana Monroe, dropping out of the rankings for the second biggest fall in the history of the AP Poll, behind Michigan’s fall from #5 in 2007.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide, 2-0 (48 first place votes) – No movement for the national champions, who had no problem shutting out Western Kentucky in Tuscaloosa, beating the Hilltoppers 35-0.

2. USC Trojans, 2-0 (8) – The Trojans lost three first place votes due to their less than impressive win over Syracuse in New York, winning 42-29 with Matt Barkley throwing for 187 yards and six touchdowns, three of them to Marqise Lee.

3. LSU Tigers, 2-0 (4) – Another non mover with a commanding win over the visiting Huskies from Washington, as the Tigers beat them 41-3 behind incredible defense and 101 yards from running back Alfred Blue.

4. Oregon Ducks, 2-0 – Another week in which the Ducks pounded on their opponents in the first half before relaxing in the second, beating Fresno State 42-25, starring running back Kenjon Barner, going for 201 yards and three touchdowns.

5 (tied). Florida State Seminoles, 2-0 – Were the next lucky team to get Savannah State, beating the FCS side 55-0, moving up one spot.

5 (tied). Oklahoma Sooners, 2-0 – Playing at home beats visits to Texas El-Paso, and the Sooners enjoyed hosting Florida A&M, beating the Rattlers 69-13, with Damien Williams running for 156 yards and scoring four touchdowns.

7. Georgia Bulldogs, 2-0 – A non-mover, Georgia had a much more impressive win this week, visiting Missouri in their SEC debut, beating the Tigers 41-20 with a huge 17-0 fourth quarter.

8. South Carolina Gamecocks, 2-0 – Moved up a spot after demolishing East Carolina 48-10, as Dylan Thompson got the start at quarterback, throwing for 330 yards and three touchdowns.

9. West Virginia Mountaineers, 1-0 – Didn’t play, remained where they were.

10. Michigan State Spartans, 2-0 – Moved up one spot after a convincing 41-7 win over Central Michigan, enjoying a good day from quarterback Andrew Maxwell, throwing for 275 yards and two touchdowns.

11. Clemson Tigers, 2-0 – Another South Carolina school to move up one spot, beating Ball State 52-27, including 32 second quarter points, as Tajh Boyd had a near flawless passing day (19-23), throwing for three touchdown passes.

12. Ohio State Buckeyes, 2-0 – Moved up a couple of spots thanks to a 31-16 win over Central Florida, always a tough outing in recent years. Braxton Miller threw one touchdown pass and ran for three more scores, running for 141 yards.

13. Virginia Tech Hokies, 2-0 – No team takes pride in their special teams play like the Hokies, who had no problem beating Austin Peay 42-7, moving up two spots.

14. Texas Longhorns, 2-0 – Texas moved up three spots, shutting out New Mexico with an impressive 45-0 win thanks to a few very long touchdowns.

15. Kansas State Wildcats, 2-0 – The big movers this week from teams already in the rankings, jumping up six spots thanks to a 52-13 win over Miami (FL), with quarterback Collin Klein scoring three touchdowns and throwing for one more.

16. TCU Horned Frogs, 1-0 – Started their season perfectly, beating Grambling State 56-0, as Gary Patterson became the school’s winningest all-time coach with his 11oth win.

17. Michigan Wolverines, 1-1 – Bounced back from their Alabama shackling although still found it hard to deal with Air Force, beating the Falcons 31-25 in the Big House, good enough to move up two spots.

18. Florida Gators, 2-0 – Their 20-17 win over Texas A&M in another SEC debut for a former Big 12 team moved the Gators up six spots in the rankings.

19. Louisville Cardinals, 2-0 – Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater enjoyed the best day of his career, throwing for 344 yards and two touchdowns, leading his team to a 35-7 win over Missouri State and four spots up the rankings.

20. Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 2-0 – Less hype, more football? The Irish won a tough battle against Purdue, beating the Boilermakers 20-17 and moving up two spots.

21. Stanford Cardinal, 2-0 – Earned a four spot rise thanks to a 50-13 beat down of Duke, with quarterback Josh Nunes throwing for three touchdown passes.

22. UCLA Bruins, 2-0 – Made their way into the rankings thanks to a dramatic 36-30 win over Nebraska, led by quarterback Brett Hundley (305 yards, four touchdowns) and running back Johnathan Franklin (217 yards).

23. Tennessee Volunteers, 2-0 – Another newcomer to the rankings, the Vols had an easy time against Georgia State with a 51-13 win and an impressive day from Wide Receiver Justin Hunter, grabbing three touchdown passes.

24. Arizona Wildcats, 2-0 – Another Pac-12 team making their debut in the top 25 this season, beating Oklahoma State 59-38, led by running back Ka’deem Carey, who ran for 126 yards and three touchdowns.

25. BYU Cougars, 2-0 – The Cougars beat Weber State 45-13 to enter the rankings.

Dropped from the rankings – Arkansas, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Oklahoma State.
