A known technique of putting the pressure on clubs and players to join a new team is having former and current members of your team speak in the media, like Real Madrid are doing right now with Gareth Bale of Tottenham, using Luka Modric and Davor Suker as persuaders.
The Welsh international has mostly been linked to Barcelona over the last couple of summers, but the arrival of Luka Modric to Real Madrid has shifted the focus towards the multi-task winger, hoping that a familiar face to play with will help him make a decision. The negotiations with Tottenham are another thing, but why ruin day dreaming when we’re only in the rumor phase?
He should play for Real Madrid and I hope he’ll come. It would be amazing and I think he can play for Real Madrid. He’s a good enough player.
The two players spent four seasons together at White Hart Lane, including the Champions League campaign in 2010-2011, reaching the quarterfinals. They’re also in the same world cup qualifying group.
The “former” angle was brought by another Croatian who starred in both Real Madrid and the Premier League (although starred, regarding his English episode, is a bit exaggerated), Davor Suker. Suker said the best move in Bale’s career would be making the transfer to Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants claim that after the lengthy negotiations this summer regarding Modric a partnership was formed between the two clubs, both clubs agreeing to work together in respect of players, coaching and commercial relationships. However, Spurs deny such an agreement was made.
Bale has been with Spurs since 2007, joining from Southampton for £7 million, since playing in 169 matches and scoring 31 goals, most of them over the last three seasons since making the switch from left back to left midfielder.
