Another dramatic Madrid derby, and again, like in the 15 Madrid derbies before it, Atletico couldn’t get a win against their hated rivals. Real, with the knowledge of Barcelona’s 4-2 win over Mallorca prior to kickoff, came out calm, organized, and much better than the under achieving home side. A brilliant Kaka strike just 5 minutes from the start set the pace for the next hour, as Marcelo and Higauin made it 3-0, with Real looking comfortable and relaxed. Maybe too relaxed. Aguero came on, Sergio Ramos got sent off, and with a lot of heart, Atletico managed two goals from Forlan and Aguero. Casillas made a fantastic stop in the 89th minute, and that was all Atletico could conjure.
Real stay second, 1 point behind Barcelona, with the superclassico just three weeks away, while Atletico suffer their first home defeat of the season in the La Liga and are in deep deep trouble, at 18th, with just 7 points after 10 league games.
