Arsenal FC – January Shopping List

Arsenal FC – January Shopping List

It’s very clear that Arsenal, currently out of a Champions League spot or even any kind of European qualification, aren’t very happy with their season. Not in the Champions League, not in the Premier League. Despite having a rather busy summer, bringing in Olivier Giroud, Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski, Arsene Wenger is most likely to bring in more during the January transfer window.

But who? It might seems Arsenal need strenghtening in more than one position. Their problems on the wings and upfront seem to be the most glaring of problems, but there’s also their shaky defense to consider, or adding a bit more depth anywhere else on the field.

A popular name often brought up in Arsenal discussions when it comes to transfers is Wilfried Zaha, the 20 year old winger-striker who has already made his England debut but has yet to play a single Premier League match. His price tag? £18 million, and many think he’ll fit in very well on the Theo Walcott spot. So, Wenger will replace Walcott, overall a disappointment, with another player with the same skill set, while he also has Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain?

It’s pretty obvious to many that Marouane Fellaini isn’t going to be staying much longer with Everton; The 25 year old Belgian midfielder has shows what he can do with a more attacking role this season, already scoring six league goals. Arsenal desperately need a more physical presence in their attack, and Wenger has mentioned his admiration of Fellaini a number of times. After he scored against them in the league, he probably feels even stronger about it.

Luke Shaw is another name thrown around the Emirates these days. The 17 year old left back has been playing regularly for Southampton this season and quite a few clubs have shown an interest in him. Seeing as Arsenal love purchasing Southampton players and feel that Kieran Gibbs shouldn’t be alone and without competition for the position, a £10 million future bid might in the works.

Adrian Lopez has been scouted and followed by Arsenal since he arrived at Atletico Madrid. The Spanish forward is part of an incredible Atletico Madrid season so far, and if he’ll come, it won’t be for a cheap price. Once again, he doesn’t seem like the kind of player Arsenal need, having more obvious problems in their lineup. Still, an upgrade of the current squad isn’t going to hurt.

A striker that Arsenal might go for is Fernando Llorente, who’ll probably be chased by half of Europe, including Juventus, come the transfer window. Llorente has hardly been playing this season, but will be coming at a reduced price, probably, of around £7 million. A bargain.
