Europa League – All 32 Teams in the Knockout Stage

The knockout stage of the 2012-2013 Europa League, the round of 32, has six teams with a Champions League trophy in their resume – Liverpool, Inter, Ajax, Benfica, Chelsea and Steaua. The Premier League and the German Bundesliga have the most clubs in the knockout stage, with 4 each.

Ukraine, Italy and Russia have three teams each; Czech Republic, Romania, France and Spain send two clubs each; and one team from Turkey, Belgium, Switzerland, Greece, Portugal, Belarus and the Netherlands also made the last 32.

Ajax

Ajax were knocked out of their group in the Champions League, finishing behind Dortmund and Real Madrid, ahead of Manchester City. With 3 goals, Siem de Jong was their top scorer. They are currently fourth in the Dutch league. They were knocked out in the Last 32 stage of the Europa League last season.

Anzhi

Finished second in their group, behind Liverpool but ahead of Young Boys and Udinese, playing in Europe for the first time in over 10 years. Samuel Eto’o, with 3 goals, was their top scorer in the group stage. They are currently second in the Russian league.

Atletico Madrid

Finished in second place behind Plzen and ahead of Academica and Hapoel Tel Aviv. Three players led the scoring for the team with two goals each. Atletico are currently second in the Spanish La Liga. They’ve won the Europa League twice in the last three years.

Basel

Finished second in their group, ahead of Videoton and Sporting, behind Genk. Marco Streller was their top scorer with 3 goals. They are second in Switzerland at the moment. They reached the last 32 of the UEFA Cup in 2008.

BATE Borisov

Finished third in their UCL group behind Bayern Munich and Valencia but ahead of Lille. Vitali Rodinov was their top scorer with two goals.  They won the 2012 league title in Belarus.

Bayer Leverkusen

Finished second in their group, behind Metalist but ahead of Rosenborg and Rapid Wien. Gonzalo Castro was their top scorer with two goals. At the moment, they are second in the Bundesliga. They’re UEFA Cup winners from 1988.

Benfica

Champions League dropout, finishing behind Barcelona and Celtic, ahead of Spartak. Oscar Cardozo was their top scorer in the group stage with two goals. They are second in the Portuguese league at the moment. They reached the semifinal of the Europa League in 2011.

Bordeaux

Finished on top of their group, ahead of Newcastle, Maritimo and Club Brugge. Jussie, with 3 goals, led the scoring for the team in the group stage. They’re sixth in France at the moment.

Borussia Mönchengladbach

Gladbach finished second in their group, ahead of Marseille and Limassol but behind Fenerbahce. Three different players scored two goals for the team during the group stage. They’re currently 10th in the Bundesliga.

Chelsea

Finished third in their Champions League group, behind Juventus and Shakhtar but ahead of Nordsjælland. Oscar led the team in scoring with five goals. They’re third at the moment in the Premier League. They haven’t played in the UEFA Cup since 2002-2003.

Cluj

Finished third in their Champions League group, behind Manchester United and Galatasaray, ahead of Braga. Rui Pedro led the team in scoring with 3 goals. They are sixth in Romania at the moment. They’ve never been to the last 32 in the Europa League.

Dnipro

Finished first in their group, ahead of Napoli, PSV and AIK. Roman Zozulya led the team in scoring with 3 goals. They’re currently second in the Ukrainian league. They’ve never been past the group stage since the format began.

Dynamo Kyiv

Finished third in their Champions League, behind Porto and PSG but ahead of Dinamo Zagreb. Oleh Husyev was their top scorer with two goals. They’re currently third in the Ukrainian league. They reached the quarterfinal of this competition in 2011.

Fenerbahce

Won their group, finishing ahead of Gladbach, Marseille and Limassol. Dirk Kuyt was their leading scorer with two goals. Fener are 4th at the moment in Turkey. They reached the last 32 stage of the UEFA Cup in 2007.

Genk

The Belgians finished on top of their group, ahead of Basel, Videoton and Sporting. Benjamin De Ceulaer was their top scorer with three goals. At the moment they’re fourth in the Belgian league. They’ve never been this far in the competition.

Hannover

Won their group, finishing ahead of Levante, Helsingborg and Twente. Two players scored three goals to lead the team in the group stage. They’re 11th at the moment in Germany. They reached the quarterfinals of the competition last season.

Inter

Finished second in their group, behind Kazan but ahead of Baku and Partizan. Marko Livaja was their top scorer with 4 goals. Inter are third at the moment in Italy. It’s been quite a while since they last played in the Europa League/UEFA Cup, winning the competition three times during the 1990’s.

Lazio

Finished on top of their group, ahead of Tottenham, Panathinaikos and Maribor. Two players led the team with 3 goals each. They’re in fifth place at the moment in the Serie A.

Levante

Finished second in their group, behind Hannover and ahead of Helsingborg and Twente. Three different players scored twice for the team during the group stage. They’re 8th at the moment in Spain.

Liverpool

Finished first in their group, ahead of Anzhi, Udinese and Young Boys. Jonjo Shelvey was their top scorer with 4 goals. Liverpool are 11th at the moment in the Premier League. They reached the round of 16 in the competition two years ago.

Lyon

Won their group, finishing ahead of Kiryat Shmona, Athletic Bilbao and Sparta Prague. Three different players led the team in scoring with 2 goals. They are currently leading the league in France.

Metalist

Finished first in their group, ahead of Leverkusen, Rosenborg and Rapid Wien. Cleiton Xavier led the team in scoring with 4 goals. They’re fourth at the moment in Ukraine. They reached the quarterfinals of the competition last season.

Napoli

Finished second in a group, ahead of PSV and AIK but behind Dnipro. Edinson Cavani led the scoring in the group stage (of the whole competition) with 7 goals. They’re second in the Serie A at the moment. Napoli won the competition in 1989.

Newcastle

Finished second in the group, behind Bordeaux but ahead of Maritimo and Club Brugge. Shola Ameobi led the scoring with two goals. At the moment they’re 14th in the Premier League. They reached the last 16 round of the competition in 2007.

Olympiacos

Finished third in their UCL group, behind Schalke and Arsenal, ahead of Montpellier. Konstantinos Mitroglou was their top scorer with 4 goals. They’re currently leading the league table in Greece. They reached the last 16 of the competition last season.

Rubin Kazan

Finished on top of their group, ahead of Inter, Partizan and Baku. Salomon Rondon was their top scorer in the group stage with 4 goals. They’re currently fifth in the Russian league. They were knocked out at the round of 32 of the competition last season.

Sparta Prague

Finished behind Lyon, but ahead of Bilbao and Kiryat Shmona. Two players with two goals each led the scoring for Sparta. They’re third at the moment in the Czech league.

Steaua București

Steaua won their group, finishing ahead of Stuttgart, FC Copenhagen and Molde. Raul Rusescu led the scoring with 3 goals. They’re currently leading the league in Romania. They were knocked out at the round of 32 last season.

Stuttgart

Finished second in their group with Steaua, ahead of Copenhagen and Molde. Two players led the scoring with two goals each. At the moment, Stuttgart are 7th in the Bundesliga. In 2011, they were knocked out at the round of 32.

Tottenham

Finished second in their group behind Lazio, ahead of Panathinaikos and Maribor. Jermain Defoe with 4 goals was the team’s leading scorer. They’re currently 4th in the Premier League. In 2009 they reached the last 32 of the competition.

Viktoria Plzen

Plzen won their group, finishing ahead of Atletico Madrid, Academica and Hapoel Tel-Aviv. Pavel Horváth led the team with three goals. They’re currently leading the league in the Czech Republic. They were knocked out in the round of 32 last season.

Zenit

Finished third in the Champions League, ahead of Anderlecht but behind Milan and Malaga. Danny led the team in scoring with two goals. They’re currently fourth in the Russian League. They won the competition in 2008.
