The only league in Europe that had more than one or two teams spending money this summer was the Premier League. Expect it once again to be the active one when the 2013 January Transfer window opens, with everyone looking for strikers, and Falcao of Atletico Madrid being the hottest name on the list.

With 16 goals in 14 matches this season, it’s easy to understand why he’s such a hot item on everyone’s shopping list, especially Chelsea, Real Madrid and PSG. Still, it’s hard to see Atletico Madrid letting go of him in the middle of a title race. It probably depends on the kind of offers they’ll be getting.

Another goalscorer with proven numbers who is going to be shopped for is Klaas-Jan Huntelaar of Schalke, with 10 goals in 20 matches this season, is another player quite a few teams, especially Arsenal, are looking at. Mario Balotelli is another striker that may be on the move but not because of his numbers, but for yet another falling out with Roberto Mancini, the 1000th in the last few years. Demba Ba, with 10 goals in 16 matches this season, is probably a cheaper option with an £8 million release clause.

It’s not only about strikers. Nani and Theo Walcott are both on the verge of making a departure, maybe even a switch between Old Trafford and the Emirates. Kevin Großkreutz of Dortmund, who isn’t playing as much as he used to in previous season for Dortmund, is wanted by Liverpool, and might make the move from Germany to England this winter.

Central midfielders are also an assett people look forward to getting: Wesley Sneijder isn’t really getting a lot of minutes with Inter, but that should mean he might come cheaply. Daniele De Rossi is the heart and soul of Roma, but he might prove to be an opportunity for owners to cash in if a fat offer from the Premier League or PSG comes along. Paulinho of Corinthians might make his way to Chelsea.
