Floyd Mayweather – Waited for the Manny Pacquiao Loss

Ever since he got out of prison, Floyd Mayweather has been very quiet compared to what we’re used to seeing and hearing from him, until now. I guess Manny Pacquiao losing a fight is such a cause for celebration in camp Mayweather, that he just couldn’t resist and share his wisdom on the subject.

Now that Manny Pacquiao has lost two consecutive fights, getting knocked out in the sixth round by Juan Manuel Marquez in the last one, there’s no real need for Mayweather to worry about fighting the Filipino fighter, and especially worry about having to lose too much money when the two step in the ring. Whatever leverage Pacquiao had is now gone. He’s still a very popular name and will remain that way until he retires, but he has no claim anymore about a 50-50 or a 55-45 split between himself and the biggest money making machine in the history of boxing.

Mayweather never really admired Pacquiao’s skills, at least not on the outside. He never really wanted to fight Pacquaio either: too much of a risk to his record, too much of a risk to the revenues he likes to keep to himself. Now he gets a chance to gloat, because when Pacquiao lost to Bradley, Mayweather was still in prison.

You have to really, really dedicate yourself to your craft. I think he’s got so many different things on the outside that he worries about. But it was a good thing that he was able to come into the sport, you know, piggyback off my name, and get a bunch of endorsement deals and make a good living. That’s a great thing. Pacquiao’s focus should be trying to take a vacation, get his mind right, and get a few tune-up fights so he can bounce back.

I’m pretty sure Mayweather will be happy to see Pacquiao leave the sport for good, although maybe now, seeing as how vulnerable the former claimant to the Pound-4-Pound throne Mayweather thinks no one else deserves, he might just pick up the glove and decide to give him a fight.

When a guy gets knocked out and he can get up, they sit him on his stool, they rub his back, he goes home and ices himself, he goes to the hospital and gets checked out and he’s okay, that’s one thing. But when you’ve got to wake a guy up with smelling salt and he’s got a concussion and he’s got to go to the hospital overnight, that’s crucial. I mean, that’s close to death. Hopefully he’s okay. My prayers go out to the Pacquiao family. I know he loves the sport of boxing, so hopefully he can bounce back.

Mayweather has two fights planned for 2013, unless something unexpected comes up, like more legal problems. Who? It’s still unclear, but Pacquiao’s losses might have ended the chance of his team pursuing a fight with Mayweather. The way Floyd loves to handpick his opponents, maybe fighting Pacquiao is the next step, but it’s hard to believe in that right now. The popular theory is Mayweather fighting Robert Guerrero in a Welterweight title bout before moving back to 154 and taking on Saul Alvarez. There’s also the option of Sergio Martinez in some sort of catchweight, but La Marvilla is booked for April in Argentina.
