Somehow, despite completely imploding and exploding on the match official, Jerzy Janowicz managed to win a tough five set match against Somdev Devvarman, advancing into the third round of the 2013 Australian open.
All the problems began in the first set during a very tight tie breaker, with the score 9-8 in his favor. Janowicz stared from behind the baseline as a Devvarman shot sailed just beyond the line, or at least Janowicz thought so, only to be stunned by the official, calling it in and giving the point to the Indian player.
Janowicz went on an amusing tirade which included staring and shouting at the line, shouting at the referee, shouting at everyone about how ‘she couldn’t see the ball’ and ‘how it isn’t fun playing like this.’
The 22 year-old and the 24th seed entering the tournament couldn’t afford flying to Australia 12 months ago, but his career seems to be on the right track at the moment, and despite losing that first set, he came out with a five set win, winning the last three sets. His next opponent will be the 10th seed, Nicolas Almagro from Spain.
